New Mexico Mom questions..

We are in Canada and live in our 5th wheel but we are planning on heading south for the winter. We are looking at Arizona and New Mexico but are open to other ideas..We have 4 asthmatic kids so figure being somewhere dry and warm will help! If anyone knows of any good kid friendly areas to stay, looking for somewhere to park preferably for cheap. We are off the grid with solar panels etc so don't have to be hooked up all the time. Would like to be somewhere near a community where we can buy organic and or healthy foods and maybe even be around some other unschooling/homeschooling families. Any ideas would be appreciated

Albuquerque is very kid friendly, but I'm not sure of any where to stay. I know there is a KOA off of central (aka Route 66), but I'm not sure how safe it is.

The abq koa isn't extremely nice and is expensive.
Do you want to stay in one place hte whole time or are you willing to move around. We have lots of national and state parks but they have time limits.

We are happy to move around, just not every night

as the pp mentioned the alb. KOA is pretty sketchy. I think there are places to stay in Rio Rancho though, Most of northern New Mexico (with the exception of Farmington probably) is in the mountains and gets pretty cold and snowy (well, I don't know as compared with Canada...) I'm not as familiar with the southern part of the state so I don't have much to recommend.

I haven't been there in years but I remember the Silver City area being really fun during winter break when I was a kid. We camped for about 3 weeks one year and the weather was in the 50s.
