I am worried my HB might not happen..

I am only 30 weeks.. planing HB#2, baby #5...(out of hosp. birth #3,lol)
I am just looking for feedback, form some who think similar to myself.

I had my 30 week MW visit today. And my belly is only measuring "Barely" 28 cm. I am super tall and tend to measure small... sometimes right on sometimes a week behind. The issue is, that at 26 weeks I was 27 cm. And now 4 weeks later I am 28 cm, barely.
So MW says we will see what happens at my next check, at 34 weeks. She said I need to be at least 33 cm then. If not we will set up an US and go from there.

So anyone know what happens if I end up having some sort of IUGR? I am guessing I won't be able to homebirth? My fear is ending up with a "needed" c section...
I would just love to hear if anyone has any thoughts... Sadly this is just kind of a wait and see situation right now, that I think will end up just fine. But I am the type of person who needs to know worst case, and hope for best case.. Its weird I know. but its who I am....
Thanks for any insight!! Amy

Don't panic yet! Many people grow in spurts. You might be behind now and ahead of the game later. Or it could just be the baby's positioning. If you end up with an ultrasound, everything will likely look fine. Keep thinking positive thoughts...

I'm surprised she's worried actually. You are within the accepted limits of fundal height for measurement. Everything I have ever read or been taught has said that the measurement should be within 2cm of the woman's gestation, plus or minus. Do you have other risk factors, such as previous IUGR or has your weight gain been inadequate? If not, I wouldn't worry about it quite yet.

Thank you!!
Jen, I don't think the issue is measuring behind, but more 1/2 cm growth in 4 weeks. When She first measured me, I was 28 cm, baby's head was in my hip(its fav. spot, lol) We gently pushed it to heads down, and then I was 27.5 cm. Measuring small is normal for me(I am 6'2, I have lots of room for a baby to go in there, lol) But no growth is not so normal. So we will just wait and see. I tend to have somewhat bigger babies( my 3 girls were 7.12, 7.15 and 8 even , my son was 9.7) so its just a little odd. The good thing is, I feel like things are ok. I trust my MW and she trusts me, so its good.
But I so do not want to end up in a hospital again!! My first 2 were born there and it was no fun for me....so of course that is right where my head went. I need to be prepared for the worst case(in my head) so I can deal with it, IF it happens. Usually it does not, lol!!

Hi! All I can say is that this was me with my first. At 34 weeks I dropped to less than 2 under, and had been slowing down pretty drastically for the last few appts. The mw said, we'll see you in a week and take another measure, and decide on US or whatever else from there. Well, I didn't make it because I then had diarrhea for that whole next week and went into a prodromal type labor for a three days on absolutely no sleep with frequent contractions and gave birth, luckily vaginally, at exactly 36 weeks. I am petrified of this happening again and my HB MW just keep telling me I gotta make it to at least 36 weeks to get my HB. That's the deal. That is what is considered the safe range. So, you are almost there. Good luck.

If I were you, I'd be eating like a champ and spending as much time on my hands and knees (it could be a bad position for baby to grow issue)...but thats just what I'd do. I think mine was probably position related...but who knows!

At 33 last week I measured 30 so MW sent me for an ultrasound. According to the unltrasound she weighed 5 pounds 1 ounce. That puts her in the 35th percentile, but big enough to not have to worry. She also said I was doing to much and needed to rest more so that the baby could put on some weight.

My fundal height dropped a bit compared to gestation, similar to yours, around that time. My baby was still 7 lbs 4 oz at 36w6d. So I wouldn't fret too much just yet. You're just looking at ONE appt where the fundal height has changed a bit, and remember also that it's not an exact measurement, and that baby's position can change it.

Don't panic just yet.

I usually measure 2 cm behind, and had one appointment with DD2 where the fundal height didn't change at in two weeks, this was at the end of my pg with her. My MW was never concerned, DD2 was born at 38 wks weighing right under 7 lbs.
