Anyone in Erie?

'm considering moving there to be with my dd's father full-time, but I want to know what kind of natural family resources are there. Are there homeopaths and naturopaths? Is there a good natural family community? Good whole foods stores? Open-minded pediatricians on the vaxxing (and other) issues? Like-minded folks in general?

Hey! We used to live in Erie and are contemplating a move back to be closer to DH's family and our friends. We have a pretty good network of like-minded friends there, and there are definitely lots of natural-minded people around. I know on mdc aeneva is in Erie. I'm not sure about naturopaths and pediatricians. We moved when dd was only two months old. Hopefully some Erie people with more info will see this thread!

Wow, I just went to La Leche League's site to see if there was an active chapter in Erie - bad news. No group meeting at this time. This is all making me very leery of Erie . . .

I have a homebirth midwife friend who just moved to Erie...she posts on here sometimes. Valerrie Monterrey is her name. So, I know at least one person out there is holistic, lol!

Hi Amy - I'll be there around mid-December most likely. We should hook up and find out what kind of resources are there! I was kind of disheartened when I found out that there's not even a LLL meeting going on there, but hey, maybe we can start a little gang of our own.

I emailed this thread to a friend of mine in Erie who I thought would have some answers for everyone. She's the one who put me in touch with my midwife and chiropractor in Erie and she'd definitely be the one I'd ask about anything related to natural family living resources in the Erie area. Hopefully she'll be able to shed some light

There is definitely support and other like minded people in Erie. I have a yahoo group called erieapparents check it out. We are slowly growing and I really hope to meet on a regular basis, but it just doesn't seem to happen with me working full time.

Personally I see the doctors at North East Family Practice and while I know they wish we would vax, they absolutely do not give me a hard time about it. They are all for extended nursing and just don't know that we cosleep, but I am pretty sure they would be okay with it. Dr. Roman Bojewski is a certifed DO, acupunturist and some sort of other alternative who is covered under my insurance. I keep meaning to check him out, but just haven't gotten around to it. He does only take children over the age of 2 though. We also see Dr. Good (a chiro) in Wattsburg for things other then well baby checks, including ear infections etc.

There is a whole foods coop that is pretty good, but we do most of our own gardening and canning so don't visit often.

Please check out my yahoo group. I also can give you a name of a home birth midwife if you need that. There are a couple in the area, but one is a CNM and accepts some inusrance.

I moved here in September and I too was sad that I couldn't find very many crunchy groups. I too looked for LLL. I even looked for a HS group even though our boys are in a privet school now I loved the HS groups I used to belong to.

I still don't feel at home yet. this is my first time living in a city.

but I am glad there is a Whole Foods Co-op. our church also has a co-op. there is an Herbal store as well. several Massage therapists, Chiropractors, acupuncturists, Life Style Educators, Natural Path types, doulas, CBE, Yoga instructors, a few midwives like me, two of us serve the home birth communities.

I came from NE PA and a friend started NE PA birth yahoo group. and boy do I miss that group. they posted regularly. they met a bout once a month at Borders and we all nursed our babies there in the cafe.:

We had doulas, CBEs, Yoga instructors, a few midwives like me, and crunchy mama with every type of birthing background, HB, Hosp.B, clinic, unassisted, midwife assisted, OBGYN and family prac assisted births. we all respected each others mode of life style, christian, political, back woodsy, vegan, vegies, and no special diets. vacs and no vacs circs and no circs. cloth diapers and not.

The main things we had in common was we were trying to do the best for our children and partners. and be responsible for our own health care and not let anyone intimidate us to follow their view of health and lifestyle.

Since I couldn't find a group like that here in Erie. I started one hoping someone else was looking but so far no one has really come by. But, I welcome you to Subscribe: [e-mail]

Maybe someone could start a LLL group. I remember one of the previous LLL groups I was with, was planning to drop the LLL listing as the dues were getting too expensive for some of the moms. especially the one that seemed to need it the most. The group felt they could still support each other without being listed with LLL. So maybe their is a group we just have to find it. I'll do some more digging.

I live near Millcreek Erie boarder near peach. we can meet at my place, or Pannera's, B&N, Borders, even MC Library. Let me know let me know when you want to meet I wish we could get a group together that are interested in a natural lifestyle and of course my favorite topic is birth. I could put some invitations at the WFoods center. What do you think?
