Help me make these! They are so cool

I just saw these "fingerless mittens" and thought they would be perfect for my toddler, they look like they would be so easy to put on & off and still allow him to use his fingers.

Has anyone made anything like this? It looks like I could use socks for the ribbed part, but how could I make them nice & thick/warm?

(I'm a very beginning sewer....)
Thanks!

I would use fleece, or a felted wool sweater. both really warm and cozy and super easy to work with

thanks! How would I make it elasticised?

If you have a kids sized felted sweater you can just use the ribbing on the cuffs (so you would use the end of the cuff as the bottom of the mitten - does that make sense without a visual?

Alternately you can buy elastic thread and you could handsew that through the bottom and top ends of the cuffs.

If you are making fleece ones you can sew a little tube for elastic and attaching it to the bottom edge or the spot where your child's wrist would be.
