natural make up, soaps etc?

I've been searching and searching till my eyes feel like thier going to burn from to much pc time. I've been on skindeep to check the ratings of make up and soaps. I can find stuff, but it's so exp and not in stores that I can find. At least the companies that are part of the organization for not using ingrediants that are harmful and no animal testing.
So...
Does anyone have any of the following they really like, is possibly in a store somewhere and not too exp.
mineral make up
blush (mineral if possible)
lipstick or lipgloss
concealer
acne medicine/body wash
soap for washing
shampoo
conditioner
baby soap
I apologize if there's a list here already. I did a search but couldn't find much at all.

Same question here. I probably checked at least 30 different websites on skin care, and still can't decide what's the most natural.

Hoping for more good advice.

I'm just super frustrated. Every organic brand in the stores I can find have horrible ratings on skin deep. I haven't checked the natural stores near me, I don't know if they carry make up. Sometimes I wish I didn't need to wear make up, but I just don't think I can get away with out it. I get some blemishes and redness and would rather them not be seen. I don't even think I wear a lot-just some cover up, under eye stuff and eye shadow, oh and sometimes lip gloss.

Some natural brands of makeup that you can find in some health food stores are Ecco Bella and Gabriel (or almost completely natural - the Ecco Bella mascara has parabens, but I think all or most of the other cosmetics by those brands are pretty pure.)

Most health food stores also carry Aubrey Organics which is completely natural and makes some awesome soaps, shampoos and conditioners. You can buy them much cheaper online though. A.O. also makes makeup - silk and mineral foundation and blushes, but they are kind of pricey compared to my favorite makeup...

I use and love Everyday Minerals which has been mentioned quite a bit on the forum. They offer a free sample kit, and all you pay is shipping - $3 or $4 in the US - so it's easy to try. If you are going to be using mineral makeup for the first time, you should definitely get a good brush. The everydayminerals flat top brush is awesome, and it's only $10. (It's much cheaper if you buy it in a kit, but you should wait til you find your correct color before getting a larger custom kit.)

You really have to read labels and research ingredients because for most companies, "Natural" and "Organic" are just BS marketing terms.

HTH.

I can totally relate! It is SO hard to try to learn all the science behind this stuff. I love the fact that skin deep exists, but its almost more scary than helpful!

I have some recommendations for you for where to shop online for natural products. (in order of my favorite)
1. TheSimpleBody.com
2. GreenFeet.com
3. SaffronRouge.com
4. allnaturalcosmetics.com

I know at TheSimpleBody.com their standards are pretty great. Most of the brands that they carry have signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics (the folks that brought us SkinDeep). And GreenFeet is a GREAT resource for all sorts of green stuff, but their makeup selection is a little weak.

Lately I've been diging this line of face care and body soap called Keys-Soap, (i got it from thesimplebody.com). Keys was created by a melanoma survivor who wanted super safe products. Their stuff smells delicious! I love the foaming facial wash. And they just are introducing a shampoo and conditioner that are extra safe too.

honestly - search on etsy for a bunch of that stuff. most people list their ingredients.

Or, make your own. Or pm one of us on MDC who make stuff and see what you can set up! :

I will share what I use and love:

mineral make up, blush (mineral if possible), concealer- I use EDM but I know they don't have a great skindeep rating

lipstick or lipgloss- coconut oil!

acne medicine/body wash- If your acne is bad, look at your diet. A lot of people seem to be allergic to gluten, but I think my acne may be caused by sugar. I really believe that acne is caused by an internal disruption. Anyway, I play around with a few natural cleaning methods- raw honey, oat flour & salt, apple cider vinegar, and witch hazel. For my body I love Dr. Bronners

soap for washing- washing what?

shampoo- scrub your scalp w/ baking soda

conditioner- rinse your hair with vinegar

baby soap- Dr. Bronners

I love not having a lot of *products* and chemicals around me and my family. I've been learning that more and more "green" and "eco-friendly" products are not really as green and eco-friendly as we think. Also, just think about how wasteful the process of making and containing a lot of these products are.. Good luck!

acne medicine/body wash- I've found that if I drink a ton of water and religiously wash my face morning and night that my acne is a LOT better. (Also avoiding sugar) Also if I remember to take my vitamins daily it really seems to help.

A great book on the subject is "Awakening Beauty" by Susan West Kurz (of the Dr. Hauschka brand) she also has homemade recipes for skin care.
