Dental Emergency, No Insurance?

Thread Starter
My husband lost his job and we have no insurance and no money. My wisdom tooth, which is also impacted, has broken.
I thought there was popcorn back there and when I went to pick it out, bits of my tooth wiggled and small pieces came out. There is a sharp part that's cutting up my gum and something is hitting a nerve that is making the pain excruciating in many other areas of my mouth. I have NO idea what to do. Also, I am a Canadian living in America and as a non-citizen (husband is American), many social services won't help me.
Any ideas?

If you're willing to have a local anesthetic versus the iv sedation/laughing gas a single extraction shouldn't be too expensive. Looking at my recent bill, the cost would have been $150 for an impacted tooth removal.

Grab the phone book and call each and every dentist asking for...

#1 is the dds willing to do the extraction without a full set of x-rays.(be ready to accept an x-ray for that area of your mouth...it might add 30 dollars)
#2 is the dds willing to do the extraction without a initial visit and then scheduling the extraction (to avoid a 'office visit' cost twice)
#3 is the dds willing to do the extraction with a local
#4 do they accept payment plans.

There's a product called CARE CREDIT if you/dh has a decent fico score. 12-18 months no interest. I've heard good and bad things about it but for lots of people it can allow needed work to occur when there's no money right that second to pay.

Can you get to Ann Arbor? There is a dental school at U of M. It won't be free, but it might be lower cost to go there. http://www.dent.umich.edu/patients/
