Vax exemptions for kids, nursing school for me?

How would that work?
I'm considering going to nursing school, but I'm stuck on the vax issue. Not so much for me, it wouldn't be a choice for me. You have to get the Hep B series before you can even start the nursing program. Is it possible to do that and not affect my kids' exemptions? Anybody know?

I'm pretty sure you can get the exeption for yourself. My aunt is a nurse and is anti-vaccine and has gotten the state to issue her the examption form to work in the hospital.

True, but you have to decide if the risks outweigh the benefits. Nurses are such high risk for contracting Hep B. Even the most careful nurse who utilizes all standard precautions is at a really high risk of a needle stick or any other situation. I have two co-workers who are sticklers for standard precautions and they both got blood in their eyes (one in her mouth) from a procedure that doesn't require face shields. It was just a freak accident kind of thing. The patient had Hep B, Hep C and HIV, they started their anti-virals that day.

I would not want an exemption for myself. I completely agree that it's too high risk of a profession not to be vaccinated for Hepatitis. I'm just wondering if it would negate my kids' exemptions?

The people I would be concerned about putting 2 and 2 together are the school secretaries.

They obviously aren't going to the same school so how would the secretaries find out?

I would think that the Hep B vax would fall under HIPPA so really it's not the business your kids school to find out or the business of anyone who administers the vax to you to tell.

What reason did you use for your kids exemptions?
