Hmmm, not a lot of adopted children as patients there, I'm guessing...

Technically there is no way to prove that a person's health would be any different if they had been fed something different as a child because it is impossible to rewind the hands of time.
Child by child, that is true at our current level of medical research and technology. But insurance companies deal at the statistical level, and the research does clearly indicate that formula-fed children have higher incidences of diabetes, asthma, certain cancers, obesity, food allergies and intolerances, etc. 'Rewinding the hands of time' is rather a strange way to look at it--by that definition, we can't prove any kind of causality at all... which is an interesting philosophical issue, but probably not one which engages the minds of health insurance companies a whole lot.

blaming all of our current health problems on ff is a little rash. so much has changed in the way we eat in the last 200 years and while forumula may be a contributing factor it is certainly not the only one.. or even the largest. People in this country eat a tremendoes amount of processed food and drinks like they are going out of style... fast food, soft drinks, concentrated fruit juice, refined sugars, and meat that survived on a diet of corn and soy. you cant ignore those factors. also with the ff mothers were encouraged to start solids at an obscenely early age... and the formulas people use now are significantly differnt then the ones that were available then . all of that should be considrered. formula isnt the evil here. its a whole way of thinking.

Ok, I'm late to the party and I don't want to read 7 pages :lazy: so forgive me if this has been said...

But I think that women who don't want to breastfeed will just feed their babies cow's milk.

I'd rather they have a safe alternative.

I formula fed my twins and while I wish I hadn't sometimes, they're healthy- smart- and loved.

I do plan to breastfeed my son, but if formula was prescription only I would have just gotten a prescription. If anything this will just drive up healthcare costs as doctors will give prescriptions to women who flat out won't breastfeed and insurance companies will have to pay for it.

The babies who will be most disadvantaged are those who aren't insured. They'll end up getting cow's milk.

I should also add that I intended on BFing my twins and my story is long, boring, depressing.

I harbor a lot of guilt over it and I'm GOING to nurse my son!

I am pro breastfeeding, so much so that I recently contacted my state senator to get a law passed in Maine to protect working mother's rights to pump at work.

I am pro-BF... but I am anything but anti-FF. How can I be anti-FF when I see how amazing my beautiful girls are? They only got my milk for 3 weeks and they are so healthy and so so smart.

Forcing women to breast feed is a horrible idea.
I am very pro bfing but just because I think/feel/know how much better it is does not mean anything for anyone but me. I am grateful I had the choice, and would never take that away from anyone.
Lets work more at educating and normalizing breast feeding and less on bashing formula.
