We Must get the flu shot?

: I don't think so.

Last week they had an article about how the flu shot also protects the baby when you get it during your pregnancy.

I think our family gets a little bit more allergic to eggs every time I hear about the flu shot. Is it just me or are they pushing the flu shot really hard this year?

I have no idea how I've survived these last 23 years w/out my flu shot.

No thanks!

I think that the flu vaccine will be pushed very hard this year, in light of recent reports that admitted last year's concoction was ineffective. Also, I recall a study that came out that said the flu vaccine for kids under two years was no more effective than a placebo. So, from the CDC's perspective, they have a lot of convincing to do.

Our local grocery store pharmacy is offering flu vaccines the first weekend in October. Just about every aisle in the store has a huge poster that says "Don't get bitten by the flu bug". It makes me want to puke everytime I see it.

Me too, except its almost 29 years for me. Of course they are pushing for the flu, they always do and with so many people questioning vaxs now a days, they feel even more pressure. Just say NO Ugh, I hate going to the grocery store watching all those poor people being shot up with poison. Makes me sad...They tried to get my dh to get one last year, almost bullying him, he said "no thanks, I don't want any poison today" the layed off of him after that

It's amazing that I've never had a flu shot and I never get the flu. And even more amazing my husband and children have survived without one too.

I've had the flu twice (or what I think was the flu, never had a test done). Once was when I had the vaccine and the other was when I did not. Not fun, very uncomfortable...but after what the flu shot did to me I'd take the flu any day.

I know how you feel. My parents' dr was pushing the flu vax on my dad for a chonic cough (that is really just a habit IMO). My mom thought it was a crazy suggestion and asked me about it (since I read all the health stuff). I told her not to let him get it...

I had it last year, no shot. Does that make me get one this year?? Ahem, no thank you.

Was it fun?? No it honestly sucked, was awful- but hey, how the heck did I survive??? And didn't even get my (back then still nursing) son sick....

IThe flu? I mean seriously though. I'm pretty sure the flu vax is a monetary ploy and nothing else. I mean really, THE FLU???

They are pushing hard. Flu is now a vaccine preventable disease (news to me). And I thought the strain changed every year anyway.

The one time I had the flu was the year I got the shot and I was 5 mos prego with ds (I was active duty, I had no choice and was forced to get the flu shot, the one with all the mercury, jerks).

There's a story on CNN.com right now about how they've made more flu shots this year then ever before and they've now changed the recommendations yet again and now all children from 6 mos to 18 yrs old should get the shot :

Oh and I heard a radio ad this morning that if you go and get your flu shot at Safeway you'll get a coupon for 10% off your next purchase. Groceries are so darn expensive it's almost tempting if I didn't know all the crap that goes into one of those shots.

I work in the health care profession and last year at my annual physical my doctor tried to get me to get the flu shot (practically chased after me as I was leaving). I explained to him that I did not want the shot and I would take my chances with getting the flu. Thankfully I did not get the flu and I was even more thankful that I did not get the shot since it was ineffective anyway.

No shots for me-and got influenza A last year. Ended up on emergency room with it. The first thing they asked was 'did you get the vax'. I said 'no, its was only 47% effective and the person I got influenza from was vaccinated'. I did mention I would also not get a shot next time either

I just hope mom has gotten the 'drift to get off my back of the 'flu shot ! But I doubt each year she shows up paper blah blah it's like she totally forgets what I believe in and don't believe in !

I'm for sure she will say he better get the 'flu shot ' and you too and I will start saying 'we don't get those and she will be like well they will prevent you from getting sick and if you still get sick it won't be as bad then I will be busy rolling my eyes.

I've never had the flu shot and the only time I can remember getting the flu as an adult was the one and only time my hubby got the flu shot at work. His supervisor talked him into it. We were both miserable for a week. He almost put the Kleenex box through the tv about halfway through that week after hearing for the umpteenth thousand time about how everyone has to get the flu shot because this is the worst flu season ever. This was going on 9 years ago.

I did get the flu once that I know of in my 31 years. I have gotten bad colds a few times but I don't know if they were the flu as I never ended up in the hospital. None of us have ever been vaxed for it. DH and our kids have never had the flu. DH has an excellent immune system. If the kids and I get a cold DH is the only one who doesn't.

Get vax'd? What, and give up the chance to stay home, watch Daytime TV, drink ginger ale and be waited on hand and foot for three days? No thanks!

Sure, you puke a lot... but after this pregnancy I'm QUITE used to that! I get the flu almost every year and it's never killed me.

Maybe I'm just a weenie then, because I get all the UR stuff, plus puking. Killer gag reflex, I guess.
