I had a wonderful discussion with my gma!

My great-grandmother is one of the few people who I told that I wasn't vaccinating my son. She did not agree with my choice and feared for my son's health. Polio terrifies her (she's in her late 80's).

Anyway, I figured she would just be someone I'd never be able to convince and I steer clear of that topic whenever possible. She knows where I stand, I know where she stands, end of story.

But today we were talking about this new book she has about natural things you can do to prevent from taking medicines for this and that. She said she was amazed at what she was learning, and was like "Did you know something as small as a single aspirin causes some sort of reaction anytime you take it?".

It was just the opening I needed! I was like, "Well, yeah grandma, that's exactly why I don't vaccinate L. Because everything you put into your body causes a reaction, and I will not risk that." She said she never thought about it that way, and I told her a couple of ingredients in vaccines and she was appalled.

I don't think I completely convinced her, and I'm sure she'll still get her flu shot this year just like her dr recommends, but at least I planted a seed. That, and she said she absolutely thinks it should be up to the parent's to decide, and that she respects my decision.

It was such a great talk. I still won't tell other family member's and I'll keep my choices to myself, but I'm so glad she understands at least somewhat where I'm coming from.
