Should DH get the Polio Vaccine?

Please help us decide whether or not DH should get vaccinated.

In 2 weeks DH has to go to India for work. He has been instructed to only go to and from the hotel (it's a private housing unit) and the plant. Yesterday he was notified that he'll need to get a polio booster before he goes. Would we be running any risks with 2 young children if he decided against it?

Here in the US, the polio vaccine that is used is the injected polio (IPV). This vaccine does not prevent transmission, so your DH could get vaxed, go to India, and still contract polio and bring it home (theoretically).

You can't get the Oral Polio vaccine here anymore, they discontinued using it here about 8 years ago because the only cases of polio here were BECAUSE of the vaccine.

Polio is primarily transmitted through the fecal-oral route, so as long as your DH has access to clean water and food, which it sounds like he will if he will be in work housing, he should be fine.
