A good way to meet midwives in this area is to go to the Athens Birth Circle -
www.athensbirthcircle.org or something like that (google it). This expectant- and current-parent group meets about once a month, usually around the last Wednesday from 7-9 pm at the Athens Public Library. There are at least two midwives who go regularly (Marlene and Piper, neither of whom I know well enough to recommend or not). The Athens La Leche League group (meets 1st Wednesday 7-9pm and last Friday 9-11 am I think) is another good way to meet those same midwives,
The midwife we chose for our dd's homebirth (May 2007) was Angy Nixon -
www.anmidwife.com . She's AWESOME, can't say enough good things about her, and I would joyfully use her again. However, she lives in Scott Depot, WV, and will only go 90 miles, so if you're between Athens and Lancaster you might be out of her range. Check an online mapping service (mapquest, yahoo maps, etc) to get exact mileage from Scott Depot to you.
Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me directly if there's anything else I can help you with!
