Wool soaker knitting pattern from The Children's Year?

Has anyone made this pattern? It intrigues me because it is knit square and then sewn together in some kind of crazy origami fashion, but I have no idea how to make sure I have the right gauge or am making the right size. I would love to hear from someone who has made it and what size yarn/what gauge they had and how big it turned out.

That sounds really interesting! I'll have to see if my library has that book. I'd be interested in seeing if others have made something from there as well.

I made this a number of years ago. I used the needles and yarn wt recommended in the book. I wasn't really thrilled with the resulting cover as to me it wasn't tight enough to hold moisture in as well as the wool covers I had been using ( used to be Biobottoms or Nikky wool covers, they were a wool fabric, perhaps a wool felt). Plus you had to pull the cover down which to me made more of a mess than using a cover that had velcro and opened up.
