Pediatrician in The Woodlands/Conroe Area

Thread Starter
I'm expecting in January, and I'm looking for a pediatrician, preferably someone a little crunchy. I need someone in the Conroe/Woodlands area.

I've heard Dr. Susan O'Neil mentioned; does anyone have experience with her?

Thank you!

My husband went to Dr O'Neil when he was a kid (last time he saw her was in '92-- senior in HS). My MIL took her 9 kids to her and they all turned out healthy, but my MIL's parenting style is a little different than mine.
Dr. O'Neil is just okay, I took my son to her once when he had an ear infection and she quickly prescribed antibiotics Pretty much the same reaction I've gotten from other docs.

We go to Dr Bhakta now, he's "crunchy-supportive"-- he lets us delay vaxes and understands (sometimes enthusiastically) when I tell him I'd rather wait an infection out a little before giving my kids antibiotics.

Do NOT go to Dr. Mona Smith at Hometown Pediatrics. Doubt she's crunchy (though she doesn't push antibiotics)....but her attitude during a recent visit was HORRIBLE.

Dr. Mona Smith

Couldn't disagree with Savoir Faire more. Dr. Smith is one of the best docs I've ever been to. She actually listens to the mother, goes the extra mile, and truly cares. I would highly recommend her to any Mom out there. Meet her and decide for yourself.

Me too! It takes a bit to warm up to her but she really takes time with you and treats you like people and patient, not just another number to get a copay. Without her my son would continue to be sick all the time and filled with antibiotics. She actually listened to us and treated him properly. Thanks to her we have a healthy thriving little man!

Also she isn't pro-circ as is ok with no/delayed vaccinations.

Dr. Stowe is the way to go in our home!

She has an office on 45, in TW, near Office Depot. She also does home visits. If you make an appointment through the office, they will file insurance. If you shedule with her, or have a home visit, you will need to pay up front and file yourself.

She's definatly crunchy, and the first time I took DS, I noted she talked to me more than my then 4 yo, but I did have a LOT of questions for her! Her nurse is also very nice.

Here's her website: http://www.healthedadlit.com

Thanks for the reminder about her....I just set up an appt. to meet her and officially have an pediatrician. We had a great, holistic family doc in PA, but haven't had anybody 'waiting in the wings' since we moved here. It's funny, we've never been to the doctor, except Jett's surgeons (he had skull surgery as a babe), and our "meet her" appt with the family doc. But, it's nice to know you have someone to call on if you ever do have a question. And, heck...it's nice to keep people off your back by not having to 'admit' you don't have any doctor.

i totally agree!!! i saw her twice and she totally over-reacts! my 4 yr old saw her when he was a babe and she prescribed a breathing treatment, he didn't need it. she then, through a strange twist, got to see my newborn son in the hosp and rec the ped neurologist take a look at him, just to be on the safe side....well, he was fine AND i had to pay for it too! it just irked me to no end. anyway, she is ok, i wouldn't rec her because she would make a hypocondriac momma crazy, yknow?

i see dr herron in conroe...very nice older man and a christian who goes on missions. he isn't crunchy though and not sure about the vax thing...i don't have much choice in the matter cuz hubby is a dr and doesn't believe any of the anti-vax info out there....
