Training pants, pull up making?

Instead of diaper making, I wonder if this post can go here?

Anyway, instead of making a diaper, I was going to use the same material for pull ups/ training pants but wasn't sure if this is doable since I've never touched a needle and thread. I saw the stickies up at the top but don't recall seeing anything for training pants. I was just going to buy a waterproof cover as my starting point and add material as needed?

Do you want waterproof trainers, or cotton ones that will "leak"?
I only ask because I spent a lot of $$ on PUL waterproof fabric when DD first started pottying... and she would pee in them. She wouldn't pee in plain cotton undies/trainers (even if I put a vinyl cover over them, say, on a car ride)...

The WeeWeka Knickers pattern is awesome, fairly simple simple, and free!

(Don't know how it would go if you've never sewn before, though....)

LOVE that pattern, and it is easier han I thought. My DD is 18 mos and for the most part she is PLed, but we made 2 of those and they worked well.

That is a great tutorial

I used the Katrina's Sew Quick Soaker pattern to make trainers. I just made an extra body layer that went inside and sandwiched extra "soaker" material in between the layers of inner and fleece. I love it! And it wasn't too hard to do, either.
