We are having our cake, and eating it too!

I'm so excited! The woman who runs the small cafeteria at my work has a young gal working here who is studying to be a professional baker. I brought in the ingredients today and they are making and decorating a cake for Alethea! They are even going to use blueberries and beets, both of which she's had, to color some of the frosting! Her birthday is today, but we will be getting the cake Friday for her party on Saturday.

There will be pics posted!!!

This has been an amazing year. We've suffered so much, healed so much, learned so much, and grown so much. It feels like a coming out party for Alethea. The eczema and food allergies no longer consume us. The baby's skin is practically perfect. We are in our groove with eating. We have our supplements worked out. It is time to start living.

Here is to all who are still struggling, may you heal, in all ways.

Thanks you guys!

Alethea's party was yesterday. It was wonderful! We ended up using the simplest cake recipe that was recommended, from Menomena. The "buttercream" frosting recipe from Kathy was the frosting pic. The baker used some blueberries to color some of the frosting. She used two little corn bread pans and made it into a double decker cake. It was decorated really nicely. I couldn't believe the baby's reaction to the cake. At first she just poked at it, then she leaned over and started licking it. She sat there SO LONG working on that cake! I felt kind of bad, like wow, this kid is really hungry! She managed to tip it upside down and crumble the whole thing and just FEAST on that thing! : There were actually 4 other little cakes made, not double decker, and I had one, it was great!

We rented a park shelter pavillion for her party. It is right next to a lake, and park equipment, a fire ring and a band shell. We (or everyone else) had pasta, salad, bread and root beer. I had glo stick necklaces for the kids which were a huge hit. Once it got dark we could see the kids by their glow sticks playing on the equipment and dancing on the bandshell stage. The fire was toasty. Including the birthday girl, there were 47 friends and family members gathered there.

The best part for me was a video slide show we put together. My dh and I had picked out photos from throughout the year. The day of my dh put them together into the show, to two very fitting songs, and packed up his computer and a nice monitor and set it up on a picnic table in the shelter and it played continuously for everyone to see. I didn't see it until we were there, and he had put a message on the screen at the end. It said something to the effect of, "Thanks to the best mommy, friend and doctor anyone could ever have". Man, I'm getting choked up again just writing it.

It isn't that everything is perfect with our health, but we've just come so far and we have had a complete mind shift. We are really living our life now, and this party felt like the celebration of that milestone. It was a perfect day.

And for the first time in a really long time, and the first time every for Alethea, we really truly did have our cake and eat it to.
