I have sympathy for the dad's situation - our society is not set up to support parents, and it sounds like they had a really rough time of it these past couple years. But what makes me sad is that I honestly think there are always other options than dropping your kids off at a hospital and leaving. There must be gentler ways to get your kids into the care of the state if that is what you've determined needs to happen.

Previous posters have suggested their relief that he didn't kill them all. I think there's plenty of room to talk about other ways to handle the situation than murder.

He sounds depressed and completely overwhelmed. I would be too. 9 kids to raise alone, all of a sudden? In the best of circumstances it would try anyone, but when you're about to be homeless and jobless too? The alternative resources at the bottom of the story wouldn't even cover it, either. This family was falling through the cracks. Our society just doesn't have the right resources to help someone in that situation.

Thank you for the further information. The first Yahoo story made me shocked and sad, but the second link made me cry, because you understand a little more about what's actually going on. It is good to know that they weren't merely "Dumped like Garbage".

And also, who would expect him to do a "Sophie's Choice" and pick one or a few to keep over the others. Really, he would've had to left them all.
