Recently my friend and I exposed our kids to the chicken pox. Her boys broke out today and I haven't noticed anything remarkable on my girls yet so we are contagious!!! We are happy to share our girls. Our families live in Ayer and Pepperell MA

Kara

**update** my girls didn't get any from the initial exposure, but since the boys did, my girls are re-exposed. We are about 7 days into this incubation period.

I want to expose my kids as well but DS just got over a fever and now DD2 has it. Hopefully it's still around when they are over it.

OMG its TOTALLY going around! I work at a pediatrics office right around where you live and we have already seen 2 kids with chickenpox and several others over the phone.

yay!! let's keep it rolling.... I used to live in San Diego, and I get emails from an online natural families group there, and they've kept it going for a while...good stuff.

I am very happy to be back online!!

Well, my friends boys got the pox. My girls didn't though. They still have a chance though because we were over there when the boys were infectious. I will let the people who want pox know if my girls start to get any sort of fever. So my girls were re-exposed on the 22nd and 25th. I'm not sure of the boys were contagious on the 22nd, but I am sure they were on the 25th. If my girls don't get it, I'll have to worship their immune systems or something LOL.

Medicmama, when my oldest had chicken pox, she also had strep throat. She was so sick, I was really scared for her... So yeah, you keep your germs LOL.

If anybody from RI gets them you know we want 'em!!

I've never had pox, so I just had my titers checked ( I had an allergic reaction to the stupid vax that was a requirement of employment. I only got the first shot).

If anyone in the Western part of MA gets it, let me know! I have a bad knee and I can't drive an hour but I'd sure love to get pox for 20 month old DD!

We're crossing our fingers that DBZ's girls get them! Then we'll be up in a flash for a playdate.

That would be awesome! You know Del most likely won't get them right?

I got the results back...I'm NOT immune. So not only did I get a stupid vax I didn't want AND have an allergic reaction, it didn't even work.

Now I don't know WTH to do! I want DD to get them for natural immunity (we don't vax anyway) but I'm 30-I'm afraid of getting REALLY sick since I've never had pox.

Any advice?

Have DH expose DD and go away for 3 weeks?

I think i would actually expose myself. If you got the vax the virus is in you - and you dont even have much immunity....which means you'll be much more likely to get shingles. I would want chickenpox over shingles any day. Expose yourself WITH DD. The more of an exposure you get the worse the pox will be. Lick the same lollipop of a kid with CP like once or twice. If you expose DD and not yourself you will end up getting it FROM her and it will be a much harder case.

How old should a child be before you expose them to chicken pox? I have a 1yrs old and wonder if that is too young? I have only recently heard about this practice so don't know much about it...

Definitely safe for one year olds.

Yeah, how old? I am wondering the same thing as Babynatasha.

Also.....

I want to expose my daughter(19m), but she is hopefully only the first of many kids. I'm wondering if I should just wait to expose her later, so all our kids would get it at the same time? Maybe it's easier to handle if it's one at a time, though.

This decision must have been so much easier 20 years ago when your kids just got it when they got it...period. Back when they didn't make CP vax mandatory in MA schools! scary.

Some people do prefer to wait till the child is verbal.
Just something to think about. Do a bit of reading on older threads and the vax board and your own research too.

Its not a one size fits all answer, each family is going to look at this differently. I could have exposed ds before he was verbal and choose not to. Now's also not a good time for him or dd, they both have been recovering from colds recently.
