Recently my friend and I exposed our kids to the chicken pox. Her boys broke out today and I haven't noticed anything remarkable on my girls yet so we are contagious!!! We are happy to share our girls. Our families live in Ayer and Pepperell MA :-). Pepperell borders Hollis NH which is next to Nashua.

I'm wondering, are the kids still contagious? If so we're interested!

I sent a PM to the person specified in the above post...

Dang, I was so hoping this was in Vermont! If anyone goes down to expose who lives in VT, I would love to come visit for a play date!

Please keep us posted if anyone else gets infected! I'm hoping for some parties alittle closer to Southern Maine...

So far we have nothing. We are only about 7 days into the incubation period though. I'll post if we have infections. Hopefully we can work it out to you guys further away LOL.

Move it on up here to maine! We went a month ago to a CP party, but no luck. We even exchanged lollipops. So much for it being highly contagious, and her kids had pox on them that had not crusted over so they should have been contagious.

ugh....I hate waiting for nothing.

I hear ya. We've been to two CP parties with nothing yet. I've heard from several people that the third try is often the "charm."

I just heard from a friend that she got CP from someone who had Shingles when she was a kid. Can you get them that way? If so, I need to start stalking nursing homes!

Oh, and Krismarie, if you do get CP, can you post a quick note here so we VT mamas can come play?

You can get CP from someone who has shingles - it's the same virus. I know someone whose kids got it from their dad that way! And now I wish I'd exposed my kids at that time, but I decided to wait and am still waiting....

You absolutely can get chicken pox from shingles! In fact, that is how this case was started. My MIL had shingles and gave DS chicken pox. Just in time, in fact! I had given in and let him get the chicken pox vaccine but he was already infected with the pox just not showing spots yet. Hopefully Kara's girls will get infected after the second exposure.

What kind of contact would you need with a person with shingles? Would the child need to touch the rash? Share utensils? Sorry, this is all so new to me...

I have read that to get cp from shingles, you have to be exposed to the rash itself. You can't just get coughed on like you can with cp. i guess maybe shingles is more localized and that's why.

Sorry for the late reply but I don't come here often. You need contact with the fluid from the rash weeping. It is not highly contagious from shingles but still plenty contagious. My son was just shy of 3 at the time. My MIL thought she had poison ivy which she thought was still contagious so she was trying to keep her distance. My son is very close to her though and spent at least two days with her while she was contagious. I know she was not picking him up with the arm that had the outbreak but I also know that they touched. My MIL also had a fairly severe case going from her fingers, down her arm, and across her back.

I hope that helps clarify at least some.
