Dr says DS has an egg allergy....so what now?

I had allergy testing done with DS b/c he appears to be allergic to dairy. He gets a diaper rash after eating dairy products or even milk baked in something. I was trying to figure out if there were other allergies since once in a while he gets the rash again even if he hasn't had any hidden dairy.

Allergy testing did not show dairy (but I am still not giving him dairy) but it did show an egg allergy. So....do I cut out ALL eggs? Ped just said to limit egg intake. Like, don't give straight eggs and in general limit egg consumption but not necessarily eliminate everything with egg in it because that would severely limit his diet.

What do you mamas think of this? Fully eliminate eggs or not? Even eggs in something? I don't see any physical or behavioral symptoms of an egg allergy...even when he has had lots of scrambled and/or hard boiled eggs in a day. (The rash definitely does not come from eggs.) So if I don't see any symptoms, what could the eggs be doing to him? She said it came up on the test high...not extremely high but high.

Thanks for the help!

Was this an allergist that told you you didn't need to eliminate them entirely?? Assuming he is allergic to eggs and it's not a false positie, you most certainly need to eliminate all eggs and egg derivatives and if you're nursing, you should eliminate them, too. Once you get to baseline, you could reintrodcue them to see if the symptoms reappear, otherwise, I'd cut them for now, along with all dairy, since you said he reacts.

Scroll down to eggs on this link: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/allergy.htm It will tell you alternate egg names to be on the look out for in ingredient lists.

Also, you may not see symptoms YET, but the allergens can still be damaging his gut leading to further allergies or escalating reactions. OR, you may notice improvements in his sleep, behavior, poop, etc. that you never connected to allergies, but that were indeed reactions. You won't know until you eliminate them and do a trial later on.

I realize it will be hard to do, but I'd say:

Our DS is allergic to eggs, milk, peanuts, treenuts, etc.

Eggs are the easiest food for us to avoid IMHO. I don't see egg allergy "severly limiting" his diet. Milk, yes...eggs, not so much.

We have completely eliminated eggs from DS's diet since diagnosis at age 11 months. His test results for egg have decreased yearly. He is almost six now and his allergist is predicting he will outgrow the allergy in the next few years. We completely avoided eggs hoping he would outgrow and to keep him from having reactions from exposure.

Good luck
