fingernail polish?

I have always bitten my nails, I think I am finally kicking the habit after 30 plus years! My 'treat' to myself for sucess and also to teach myself a little nail care was to get a manacure... so I went yesterday, paid someone $15 to cut my nails, cut the cuticles and polish them. I have no idea what I soaked my fingers in and dare to even think what was in the arosol they sprayed on them at the end... Even though I probably added a zillion bad parts of chemicals to the environment and poisoned my body... it was fun.

Now looking at my fingernails they are pretty, I asked for something clear, no color and it has a very slight pink hue... I actually like it.

Anyway... here's my question... do thy make a 'natural' nail polish? and how safe is it, both for you and the environment...

And to get the polish off... ??? I have a girly girl manstream friend who I know has some fingernail polish remover that I can borrow a cottonball of to get what I have off... but I know that stuff stinks... but is there anything else you can use or is that it?

I'm not looking at always painting my nails, I do too much gardening and wood splitting to have fancy nails, but for the occasional dress up -treat is there anything half-way safe?

I would like to know this too myself.

An ecological friendly polish is olive oil, just applied very carefully for some shine. This is the only remedy I can think of. Hope there are some more ideas:

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS - I know its really tough.

I think that the body shop makes polish that is formaldehyde-free but I think that might be as good as it gets.

As someone who has also bitten their nails all their life (and managed to have short bouts of stopping) , I know how wonderful it must be for you to have stopped and how you important it can be for your self esteem for once to be proud of your nails. Don't beat yourself up about it, as far as I know you won't absorb anything through your nails, sure its not a good thing for the environment, but we're talking tiny amounts.....there are bigger fish to fry.

Spatitual is vegan and doesn't have all the nasties in it. Plus it is really awesome. They have a whole line of vegan friendly products, and they are way better than most polishes when it comes to chemmies.

Congratulations I bit my nails for years, and now have been bite free for at least 8.
