Is your LO smiling yet???

August hasn't really smiled yet and he's pushing 6 weeks... is this normal? dd smiled at like 3 weeks and often when one talked to her in a sweet voice. August follows along well when I talk to him, and coos, but no smile. He's a tough nut to crack!

She for the first time smiled at the couch yesterday while nursing. I then took her off and started talking to her but she didn't smile at me but smiled at the couch again . She's almost 5 weeks old.

I know it can take awhile for them to smile but I'm really looking forward to when she'll start interacting with us and smiling. I know she can see us. Mostly she just wants to sleep. DD1 started smiling at 10 days old and hasn't stopped since. I guess it depends on the child.

She's been grinning to herself since birth, but now is definitely grinning in response to our smiles.

Just reading the posts makes me I can't wait til he starts.... I think he did it last weekend but hasn't done it since. Though it seems he's on the verge at times, sticking his upper lip our a bit and looking really perky.

I heard that the smile should be in place by 4-6 weeks, is it a flag if he's not smiling by 6 weeks?

I'm giving mine some extra time to do it regularly since she was 2 1/2 wks early. Dh said she smiled at him today (6 wks) and I swear she smiled at me 2 wks ago, but hasn't done it since.

It's hard to say when DD started smiling, it seems like it happened really gradually. She has a social smile now, though (5w5d). I think it probably started around 3w as a little grin that was kind of random and it grew into a big open-mouthed smile that is predictable (as in, she'll smile when we tickle her or when we laugh with her or whatever).

Yeah, it seemed to happen really gradually.

I have pictures! It's pretty difficult to get a good picture of her smiles but I tried. She's 4w in these pictures, she was grinning because DH was tickling her.

DD started smiling more purposefully right before the 3 week mark. DH gets the most consistent and biggest smiles--probably because he plays and is pretty goofy with her. But she smiles for me when we have "music time" in the afternoon. Apparently she thinks my singing voice is hilarious. I'm not saying she's wrong......

I read that at about 6wks 50% of all babies are smiling socially. Mine started around 4-5wks but I think every baby is on its own schedule

We guess he's more reserved or relaxed than dd ever was. she was super busy stretching and flailing when she was awake. this guy can just cuddle and stare and eat (flails too but hyper like dd).

Mine is 8 weeks now and only smiles on occasion. She's so nosy - she looks at everything except me, so it's rare that I can smile at her and she sees me. When she sees me smiling sometimes she'll smile. And sometimes I'll look over at her in her swing and she's smiling away, who knows why. She's a buster!

This is Kendall the way! I thought it was just me. He's even rolling over now. WHat 8 week old rolls over?

Ella started at 6 weeks...I hadn't showered yet and I said "mommy is so stinky I need a shower" and she just busted out in this huge grin. Too funny! She has been smiling in her sleep since almost birth I think and she now laughs pretty regularly in her sleep. I would love to know what is going on in that little noggin!

Serenity started smiling to herself in her sleep around 3.5 weeks. Just two days ago she started smiling to herself a bit more while awake.

Mr J started about maybe 2 weeks ago making eye contact and smiling....he also sometimes sounds like he is laughing in his sleep...I will be holding him and I hear a strange chuckling sound and his body jerking and when I look down...he has a smile on his face. He also has been making noises at me for about a week now (I think)....it is when I say hi to him to greet him when I pick him up....he looks me over and then a big smile and he coos.... I am sooo in love with him

Ethan has been smiling since birth, but now he is doing it in response to us. It melts my heart!!

BTW, Sorry I have been MIA mamas! Busy busy here with a newborn and a toddler! LOL
