Assessing cervical dilation

Thread Starter
My dh checked my cvx today and was able to have both his index and middle fingers in, side-by-side, touching the baby's head. However, he said the cvx flattened out when he did this (did not maintain it's circular shape). I guess I'm wondering if it has to be 4cm in a complete circle or if the fact that it collapses doesn't mean I'm not as far dilated? Does this make sense? When I see charts and models, they all show a perfect 3cm or 4cm circle. Is that what a person has to have in order to be 3 or 4 cm?

Ask me more questions if there's a better way to explain! Thanks!

No need for the cervix to be perfectly round. If your husband can fit two fingers, you're probably 3-4 cm.

Hope that helps!
