Midwife gift ideas??

Thread Starter
My midwife and her assistant were wonderful. I would really like to get them a thank you gift but I have no clue what to get. I could get something more professional (like an art print or something) but I was thinking more personal. Any ideas? What are others getting for support people (doulas etc)? Thanks for any ideas...

I was thinking of a gift certificate to get a massage. That was the best I could come up with. I'll be watching this thread for other ideas though.

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. My midwife has 7 kids and i know she doesnt get out much on her own...close to impossible..so any kind of gift certificate would probably not get used...but who knows...
When she was here at our home for my delivery.... i had California Baby Calming body wash/shampoo at the sink and she washed her hands with it several times...and kept saying oh i love the smell of this...oh this smells so good...then when she came for my post partum visit she washed her hands again and said the same thing...so....i went to Target and got her a bottle of it along with California Baby bubble bath...it's a little gift..but she seemed like she really loved the smell...so i figured i couldnt go wrong getting her something that she really likes. I'm giving it to her this week when she comes back for a baby visit.

I love this site:

Saffron Rouge

It's got such good stuff and sometimes people don't want to buy special things like this for themselves...so to get a gift certificate is awesome because then they can splurge on them which is sometimes just what a tired midwife needs after attending births and not getting much rest.

I asked my MW if she ever gets to sleep during the day after being up all night at a birth and she said she doesn't...I assume that happens for lots of MW's since they have appts and other commitments.

I also think any of the books from the Mothering store are a good idea for them to add to their libraries. A special inscription would be thoughtful.

What about baking her something really nice? She probably works a lot and doesnt often get to have home cooked lunches, or dinner. Make enough for her family so she doesnt have to worry about making dinner that night. Just an idea.

Can I say as a midwife I would TOTALLY dig a gift certificate to a local spa?

I bought the L&D nurses 4 dozen cookies from a local bakery and a flavored coffee for the break room. That's a little different, though.

I want to get my OB something (she totally abandoned her protocol with my birth, after all!), but I'm at a loss. I know she can buy anything she wants for herself and she doesn't have a lot of time, so I worry that a spa day or something would go unused...

I got my midwives these canvas tote bags, notecards from http://www.mother-art.com/, chocolate almonds and a fall scented candle.

BTW the stuff at mother art is awesome. I got this for myself.

I'm taking a basket of baked goodies(probably chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread), fruit and nuts along with a nice candle for the birth center when I go for my pp checkup. Last time I gave them a throw pillow with a picture of a pregnant belly on it for the birth center. I ordered it online but don't remember where I found it. It was kind of cool to see it at each prenatal visit this time around.
