gestational hypertension

UPDATE! Well, the bp didn't really go down today, but it didn't go up very much either! So that's good! We are still going in for a biophysical profile & nonstress test. I'm convinced they will show that everything is fine. AND- I am having surges every 15 minutes or so for the past 3 hours or so!!!! THAT is very exciting and I think means things are progressing as they should. Thanks, everyone for all the good ideas and thoughts!

Today my blood pressure was high at my 40 week prenatal visit. I go back on Thursday to have it checked again, and it sounds like I may need to be induced if it hasn't gone back down. double I don't have any other symptoms, only swelling in my ankles (but not elsewhere), no double vision, no headaches, dizziness, etc. So *that's* a little reassuring.

Still, my midwife wants me to take it very easy between now and then, which I will certainly do. And use my breast pump to see if we can't get labor going itself (which, I have to say, is not the most relaxing thing ever). I really don't want to be induced, so if anyone has any other ideas for getting one's blood pressure down, I'd love to hear them!

I understand the blood pressure thing. Mine was a little up today. My family has bad hypertension problems. They swear by a teaspoon of vinegar to get their pressure down. Maybe its worth trying (at least before your next appointment, if you want to avoid being induced).

Garlic is supposed to help bring it down as well.

I keep reading cayenne does it quickly. I've done lots of stuff to prevent it and it has worked well for me thus far. Magnesium, calcium and aspirin... rescue remedy and chamomile tea before appointments. Good luck!

I just had a uc after 42 weeeks and 5 days. BP was between 135/85 -145/95 for a month. If you really don't want to be induced, drastically change your diet right now. Eat mostly raw fruits and veggies. Lay off the salt drastically. Check sodium content in everything and don't exceed 1500 mg of salt per day. Drink tons of water. I monitored my Bp at home. I also drank lots of protien shakes, ate celery, took magnesium and calcium supplements and CoQ10. I also stayed in bed if my bottom number was over 90. Rest, rest, rest. I never went to a hospital and baby was born healthy at home into daddy's arms. My blood pressure has returned to normal after 2 weeks. Inducing labor can lead to other types of interventions. I decided if bp didn't get higher than 145/100 and i didn't get headaches or any other symptoms. I would not go to a hospital. But the diet change kept the Bp managable. You would be amazed how sensitive BP is. Again if you really don't want induction seriously do what it takes.

also as for the other posts. Aspirin is not to be taken during pregnancy. And yes, Apple Cider vinegar works great! 1tbs in water or juice a couple times a day. Get a good organic kind like BRAGGS. I did that too. Sorry forgot to mention that one before.

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to offer . I was induced at 38 weeks because of this. I also had no other symptoms (except for mild protein spillage) but my pressures kept rising. I know nobody wants to be induced, but you've done a great job making it to 40 weeks!

Well, my OB told me to take it. It's been studied a lot in past years regarding prevention of preeclampsia.

i guess if you are weighing the risks, its better than high bp but otherwise i wouldn't take it.

I've seen midwives put women in a tub w/epsom salts to lower BP in labor. I think it's magnesium sulfate, which is what they sometimes give through an IV at the hospital to mamas w/pre eclampsia. And, it would be very relaxing!
