Well, you can officially add me to this list of "my wife now has sperm inside her!"
We just returned from our IUI. It's a great little story, so here goes: When Katie was pregnant with Quinn, she spotted around 11 or 12 weeks regularly for a few days. At one point, it got a bit heavy, so she called our midwives at the time and went in to be checked. I didn't know, as we didn't have cell phones then (gasp!). My friend drove her there then came to pick me up at school and drove me there too. When I got there, I ran into the office to find Katie. She wasn't there, but a midwife, Deb, knew who I was and grabbed my hands, smiled warmly, and said, "It's okay. You're still a Mama." I hugged her so hard. Began to cry. Then asked where Katie was?!?! She had left the front door while I had come in the back. I found her, we rejoiced, Quinn was born many months later, and with a different midwifery practice.
Fast forward almost exactly SIX years, and we call the docs to say we think Saturday will be the day for our insem. They tell us Deb will be on call. She hasn't worked with that practice for about 5 years. In fact, she really only subs for them now. Karma, we thought! And when we walked in, she remembered us. It was wonderful. As the sperm were being washed (fresh shipped by our donor) she first marveled at how many swimmers were there, then we got to tell her about Quinn's birth, which is just always so fun and heart-warming. Then we had a great insem. She let me do the actually insem once she got the catheter through the cervix (took a bit of poking). AND, she had saved all the "extra" to do an IVI, which I got to do too (plus it was a bonus free one, which is always nice).
So, it was a wonderful experience, which adds to our giddiness and hopefully to our pregnancy ju ju.
Here's hoping. Please move us to waiting to know.
be well all,
megin
