The private funding they rely on to operate ended yesterday. The Newman Breastfeeding Clinic and Institute needs our help to keep the clinic and the website (Newman's Visual Guide to Breastfeeding, with all the helpful info and videos) open.
Here is the original alert I read (from Mothering):
Breastfeeding Clinic May be Forced to Close
When Toronto mothers have problems breastfeeding, the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic and Institute has given them support. Now, due to lack of funding, the clinic may be forced to close in the coming months.
Shawne McKeown, writer for CityNews.ca, explains that "The clinic's website, which offers free tip sheets and video instruction, has also served as an invaluable resource to women and educators around the globe. It, too, will cease to exist if funding isn't found."
To read more about Dr. Newman and his clinic, read McKeown's article here: www.citynews.ca/news/news_26992.aspx
To make a tax deductable donation, visit the clinic's website here: www.drjacknewman.com
Please donate to help keep this valuable resource available for those visiting the clinic as well as the website!
I realize there is already a post about this in Lactivism calling attention to the Canadian government's lack of financial support, but I wanted to be sure that people who wouldn't view the other post (b/c the title is Canadian-specific) will read this as well.
Women around the world have benefitted from Newman's website resources, and those resources will be lost without financial support.
Frankly, as we're in the midst of a federal election with the state of economy as a priority, I'm not holding my breath that the government will respond with funding to keep the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic & Institute open... or that they will respond quick enough. At the very least, the Newman Clinic needs our support in the interim.
Thanks.
