Dingos Run, Walk, Wog, Jog, Swim, Bike and Stretch into October! - Page 5

We did have a great race this am. I must have teared up 20 times when I saw all of teh people out there supporting this young lady. It was amazing. Then I saw a girl in a wheelchair, and then I saw the guy pushing her was wearing race number "1".. so that had to be the girl and her dad.

HBM's dd was so cute. She got comments adn compliments the whole time. Thank good ness that the course was a little hilly, b/c that's the only way HMB and I could keep up with the 6yo, LOL.

I had a crazy busy day today after the race. I basically just got home for more than 10 min run ins all day. And I felt so good all day today. No bonking, no feeling like total cr@p. Woo hoo. Running teh 5K was not too hard at all, and I've nEVER been able to say that in my life. yay for me.

Jenlove, I love A Morsette!!!

Good evening everyone! It's been a busy day in our house...grocery shopping in the a.m. and baseball in the afternoon...my grocery bill is insane...but that's another thread!

Darned staying healthy! It costs a lot!

Did just a short 2 miler today...it felt fabulous except for the wind!

I will be doing 4 tomorrow...hopefully in the morning before it gets too warm.

Wonderful race HBM, Gigi, and HBM's DD!!!! Great job to you all ! And Gigi, you sound so wonderfully positive. Love it!

I was supposed to run 11 miles early this morning, but my running partner called at 6:00am to cancel because her DD had been up all night with some stomach thing. Of course, I couldn't get back to sleep, so here I am. MDC and coffee ~ the breakfast of champions ! As soon as the family is up and moving I'll head out and run the 11 miles on my own, before church.

Oh, and JenLove, you look positively gorgeous! What a sweet, tiny bump .

My shin is still giving me some issues. The tenderness is very specific, like I can push on the spot on my tibia and YEOWCH! It kind of aches all the time. I know this is goofy, but I'm afraid to go to the doctor because a) I know he'll tell me to stop running and b) he told me to stop running a year ago when I injured my knee and I didn't :.

I just checked my email and saw that Madeline won 3rd place in her age group!!! Now I really wish we had stayed for the awards ceremony.

Gigi, did you get the email with the link to the race pics? There are tons of them and at the end you can see Claire's dad pushing her through the finish line. I totally cried when I saw them. I'm really glad we got to be a part of that race. And I'm so glad you felt good yesterday! That's awesome!

I didn;t get the race email. congrats to Madeline, yay!!!

RR - I did a decent 5K this morning for Race for the Cure. Dd was all signed up, and I thought there was a kids' run, but it was two events, one 1 mile walk, and one 5K with runners and walkers. So dd an I did the mile, running when she felt like it, and she had a good time. Then I had 15 minutes before the 5K, and I zipped in to use the restroom and ended up using the men's room when the line was too long to accomodate the time crunch (after running a 10K last weekend with a full bladder, I wasn't going to do *that* again!)

The race was fun. I started out a little too fast and walked more than I liked, but I made almost exactly the same time as my last 5K, maybe 5 seconds or so faster once my time is adjusted. (29:17 or so according to the clock.) I'd really hoped to break 29 minutes, but otoh it was a good time for me, and dd had a blast. The race was *huge* - they had 17,000 participants, although that must also have included people who slept in for the cure - and all the zipping around and confusion beforehand made me un-focused during the actual run.

So it was good! I ran pretty hard. I'd like to do one more race this year (or... maybe two) to try to improve my time a bit, but dh is getting tired of wrangling the kids out of bed so early. Maybe next time I'll do one by myself.

enjoyed a 16 mile bike ride on my newer cyclocross bike this morning. i did essentially the same ride as a few weeks ago, but today i was much stronger. i was able to easily keep my heart rate in the 150s and got into the 160s more than a few times without feeling too horrible. A few weeks ago i would feel ill if i went above 150, and keeping it in the 140s was difficult for any length of time. whatever was wrong with me is slowly improving, and i'm so glad. cardiologist appt is this thursday, i have no idea where we'll go next with it.

am roasting a chicken, making no-knead bread and mashed potatoes for a nice sunday supper before i head down to Boston for a seminar that starts early tomorrow morning. work is full of crazy hoohah right now, and i'm desperately trying to get some customers of mine through some difficult negotiations, but they don't make it easy for themselves and thus not for me as then everyone freaks out. can't wait until it's over.

am also in the midst of making tons of soap for the holiday season. I have one craft show lined up, one open studio - and that's it. but i have nothing in stock right now, so it's time to light the fire and make loads of soap.

off to shower so i can keep on schedule here. ciao.

I've been thinking that the Dingoes have been REALLY quiet lately then I just realized it's a new month. New month, new thread--you'd think I'd be used to the routine by now! Sheesh.

I'll check back with more personals later but for now...

jenlove~You are TOO CUTE! Love the belly pics!

gaye~I'm jealous of your weekend! Hope you're having a blast.

drjen~How are you feeling about the taper? I know this is normal but I feel like I should be running more. My 8 miles wiped me out yesterday! It seems counterintuitive to drop the mileage so drastically.

Off to run 4 miles. I'm posting it here so I'm held accountable.

Penelope ~ that sounds like so much fun!

grnmtnmama ~ good to hear your HR issues are improving .

I ran my 11 (actually 11.5) at 8:00am this morning. It felt great with no pain in my shin at all. My knees are a little sore right now, but nothing horrible.

Unfortunately, my DH is starting to give me a hard time about all my running (and biking). He's not a morning person, so when I get up to do an early run, he's not a happy camper, at all. And the rest of the day I get to hear about HOW TIRED he is. I guess I could do my long runs mid afternoon or evening on the weekend, but honestly, I'd rather spend that time with family and I just don't run well later in the day. Oh well.... only 4 more weeks until my race and then I'll put myself on a more reasonable schedule.

I'm totally jealous! Glad you had fun. It's been too many years since I've seen them.

Congrats to Madeline!!!

Just popping in from the beach (Nags Head, NC) to say hi. Life's been sort of crazy lately, and I've had a lot of non-RR topics on my mind, plus I haven't been doing any sort of exercise at all since my knee issue followed by a bout of mastitis in August. I'm actually thinking about trying to restart C25K this week. I'm hoping I come back from this week of vacation with a clearer head and a more optimistic outlook. What I really need is an appointment with my therapist, who has been out recovering from some kind of surgery and doesn't have a definite return date, though hopefully it will be sometime next month. Oh well, the slower pace of a week at the beach can only be good. One of my cousins and my Aunt Rexie from GA may be joining us for a few days, so that would be really nice as well.

Thank you all for the kind comments on Facebook about the Scooby cake, btw! I still sort of can't believe I have a 5 year old.

OK, must get back inside (I can only borrow the neighbor's wireless network from the deck), but I have been reading along, and hope to stick around and remain a Dingo in every sense of the word!

Whew, did my run. Was.not.feeling.it.today. How is it that all this running seems to have made me slower?!? It was only four miles yet I kept looking at my watch and wishing it was over. I guess I should just quit my bitchin' and hang in there for less than one more week. Gulp. :

eks~What's your avatar? My eyes are crap so I can't make it out.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I only got in 1.55 miles this morning, since I ran with my SO and his legs were bothering him. I'm going to start a 5k training plan this week since I plan to run a 5k on Thanksgiving.

Hope you all are having nice, relaxing Sundays!

I'm guessing handbells.

DD's soccer team first got whooped by a stomach virus, then got whooped by another team. And they weren't nice about it either. :

20 mile bike ride this morning. IT was one of those rides that happened only because I have a standing date with someone to ride, and I'd be letting her down if I didn't show up.

It looks like my running is going to be limited for the next while

I was rushing through my dd's room and thinking how we have to do a serious tidying up in there - when I tripped over something (I was carrying a large basket at the time) and fell full force with all of my weight square on one of my knee caps. I can walk on it now, bu it hurts like crazy - I think I actually passed out for a moment right after it happened from the pain.

This has already been a hard weekend - I hope a new week changes all of that!

Good guess. That's a picture of handbell castings (i.e. just the metal part of the bell) at the factory. They were probably ones that were discarded because of being slightly off. They have giant bins full of them.

Shanti I hope your knee feels better soon!

I have a walk to report, not sure how far, but I was wearing Griffin so that adds a little strength training into the mix.

hey eks, it's great to see you back! I was just saying to someone that I probably should have gone to therapy sometime in the middle of J's first year. It hit me hard and that's without significant other family stuff like you had. let us know how it all goes!

I had a really good day at work today. And THAT is a statement that I just am amazed to see myself type! I'm cautiously optimistic that this is actually going to be a really fun job, as opposed to a job that I get paid for and can kinda enjoy sometimes. we'll see...

4.5 with speedy neighbor tomorrow morning. Take care mamas.

towsonmama - the taper is . . . odd. On the one hand, I'm kind of grateful to be running less, and on the other I feel so antsy and anxious that I'm dying to long run (never thought I'd say that.) I think you're supposed to arrive at the start line dying to long run, so hopefully that works out. The 8 miles yesterday wasn't too bad, and I was actually marveling that I could run 8 miles and then just go on with my day, while 8 miles used to be a major accomplishment worthy of naps, and extra snacks, and limiting walking that day. I am afflicted with at least some degree of taper madness, though. I am still sort of obsessed with all the stuff I DIDN'T do during training, while I know I should be instead concentrating on all the stuff I DID do. I should be ready to finish a marathon, and I should be able to do it in reasonable (for me) time - but I still feel anxious that I'm not.
My current obsession in the weather. I've been checking out the predictions all over the place. There was a funny thread on the runner's world online discussion board about the weather predictions for Chicago. Seems every available prediction is different - with really wide ranging predictions actually. A bunch of people posted different sources, and they were all over the place. So then a lady posted something like "So it will be between 30F and 70 F and rainy . . . or sunny. Great. I'll just pack everything I own!" It was pretty funny. I don't run in the rain, ever. I will have to come up with a whole new system if it rains!

So, knitting mamas - is it hard to learn to do cables? Can I teach myself pretty easily? I just cast on a sweater for little dd that has a cable down the middle and I'm trying to decide to knit it or skip it.

Geo - you are amazing, sometimes. Handbells. Huh.

Shanti - take it easy on that knee and see a doc if it's not better soon!
doctorjen - cables are not difficult - but they are addictive! The most important thing is to find a cable needle you like working with - the wrong needle can make you bonkers. When I first did cables I used a J shaped needle because I felt less afraid of dropping the stitches. Now I have a set of bamboo cable needles in different thicknesses and I love working with them.
