Regular machine or Serger? SUGGESTIONS PLS!!!

So my mom saw some good talent in me so now she wants to help me out and get a new machine to start my home business. : I am already sewing with an old machine but I am about to throw it off out of the window!

What do you really think I should get? A regular Sewing machine or a Serger?

I will be doing baby shoes, purses, totes, diapers, plush toys... things like that.

thanks so much!!!

Get a good sewing machine before a serger. Unfortunately, the two aren't interchangeable.

A sewing machine--sergers are great for some things like diapers, but there are things that you just can't do with a serger.

Sewing machine. Although I use my serger regularly...there are things I can't do on it and if I could only have one...it would be a good sewing machine. A serger is an adjunct to your sewing, but the machine is essential.

Definitely a sewing machine. A serger is nice but an extra.

Sewing machine first. A serger will limit what you can do.

ITA with a sewing machine. A serger is great, however your limited. You could always do the sewing machine/embroidering machine... the one I have... I LOVE, it is always fun to them both.

Keep us updated.

I want to THANK YOU ALL for the responses!

My mom got me the affordable Brother one from Walmart (but ugh trust me I hated been at Walmart lol). I read some reviews about it and decided that it was a good little sewing machine to start with, probably next year I'll get a Janome one but since I will be doing simple stuff like bibs, lil shoes, baby hats, dipes, lil purses, I didn't think I needed such a complicated-too many stitches machine AND I felt so bad having my mom to buy any machine for me, I didn't want her to spend too much money. I might consider to get a better sm probably in a year or two. What do you think about the brother ls-2125i? What I have seen so far, this one is by far better than the one I already have crapo-old-machine-ready-to-throw-it-out
