This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Hi,
I haven't delivered there but took a tour recently so I'll try to answer your questions the best that I can. Maybe Autumn (who's an apprentice midwife there) will see this and answer your questions better. You do not stay at the birth cottage like you would a hospital. It's After you labor and deliver your baby, you leave when you're ready to go home and the midwives agree that it is safe to do so. This could be only a few hours after birth depending on how you are feeling. They do provide breastfeeding support once you are home by phone or if you need to come in and you'll see a midwife postpartum within a couple of days. The midwife and apprentice are there with you throughout your labor and stay until you go home.
I recommend calling for a tour.

I had a wonderful experience there when I had my son in 2004. I arrived early in the morning (before dawn) and Adrian and her student were there to meet us. After an amazing birth, we rested until we felt ready to go home. For us that meant leaving that same evening, around 7 or 8pm I think. In all, I believe we were there around 14 hours or so. We could have left earlier, but we live over an hour away from Milford (ABSOLUTELY worth the drive!!) and I was pretty sore to be jumping right into the car. We also had the option to stay overnight (her student would have stayed there), but we knew we'd be more comfortable at home.
Adrian was fantastic. I also thought Tracey was great. As far as breastfeeding is concerned, they got my son nursing as soon as possible and they were available by phone once we got home. They also do a postpartum home visit. The best resource for breastfeeding I found though was an amazing local La Leche League leader who came to my house, helped with our latch issues and was incredibly supportive. Adrian and Tracey are wonderful, but I highly recommend finding your local La Leche League group for continuing breastfeeding help and support. I've never before met a more amazing group of women. *waves in case they're reading...*

we arrived saturday afternoon and my son was born sunday around 4pm. My MW (Tracey) stayed w/ me the entire time and another MW came in b/c my labor was so long. I got all the support I needed re: bf'ing but was lucky that things went very well. We didnt stay a certain amount of time after birth. I had very little bleeding and left after resting for about an hour and having dinner w/ the MW's (i think it was about 4 hours after birth).
I was happy w/ teh experience but am having a homebirth this time.

I just wanted to jump in and say that I think all of you just helped me find a new gynecologist
On their website it says they offer it, so I can't wait until tomorrow to call and schedule my first appointment!

I highly recommend the Birth Cottage in Milford. I had my son there (Adrian was the midwife) a little over a year ago. It was a wonderful experience. I am also pregnant again and planning to birth at the Birth Cottage again. When I went into labor with baby #1, I arrived at the Birth Cottage around 5 p.m. My son was born at 3:00 a.m., so we decided to stay there and get some rest for a few hours. I think we left around 9 or 10 am? Adrian was wonderful, and I felt like I got wonderful breastfeeding support as well. I would definitely set up a tour there.
