anyone else still breech?

My babe flipped to breech about 2 weeks ago. I'm now almost 37 weeks and scheduled for a version on Friday, but I'm thinking about canceling it. I'm just not comfortable with the potential risks.

But I'm finding that my options if the baby remains breech are fairly slim. As in, I can stay at home and go UC. I can show up at the hospital in labor and take my chances. I can schedule a C/S. What absolutely sucks is there are OBs in this town who are skilled at breech deliveries, and they won't do them any more. grrrrrrrr.

I'm calling The Farm tomorrow.

My babe was breech with no signs of moving at 35.5 weeks. I did opt for a version as I had a feeling s/he wasn't going to move on its own (I've been concerned about breech this entire pg and never have been before, just as I worried about shoulder dystocia while pg with DS and he did get stuck). Anyway, given my history of good-sized babies (8.7 and 10.1) I felt it was better to do the version then rather than wait another week to decide since as they get bigger, they get more difficult to turn.

I'm not trying to convince you to do the version at all, just letting you know my thought process. I'm usually pretty anti-intervention, but just knew this was right for us in our situation. Are you willing to have an u/s to determine if there is a physical reason for baby being breech and then deciding? Have you tried all the techniques on spinningbabies.com?

Also, at my next appointment after the version, my mw and I spoke a lot about what she has noticed in her 20 years as a mw and late-term breeches. She said many times the mom has fears or other issues that have her holding back in some way, that there is a hesitancy to beginning motherhood with their little one. I reflected on this and realized it was completely true for me; I have not been able to bond as much with this one as before and am reluctant to have baby come as this is almost for sure my last pg and I know I will miss it. So my mw says the thought is baby is trying to be closer to your heart and/or is just making sure you notice it. For me, simply having to contemplate a possible c/s was enough to scare me into paying more attention to my baby since having one is one of my big fears.

So that may apply to you at all, but I figured I'd mention it since it was so helpful for me. My baby has stayed head down since the version and I'm focusing more on her/him and being connected. Good luck mama and remember some babies don't turn until labor. :

My little one was still breech at 36 weeks and my midwife did a version. It was calm and gentle and she took her time. It was hardly uncomfortable at all and she monitored baby's heartbeat through the whole thing and afterwards. It didn't seem to bother him a bit! And, he has stayed turned head down since. You might consider who is doing your version, how skilled they are, and what their attitude towards the whole process is, it makesa big difference. Goodluck with whatever you decide is right for you,

That really is sad that there are skilled OB's who can't use their skills. Mine is fine with doing a vaginal breech but won't because she can get into all kinds of trouble for doing it. It's an automatic C where I live.

I'm breech at 36 weeks, confirmed by ultrasound today. Have scheduled an external version next week - wasn't sure about whether to have it or not but the scan confirmed nothing obviously risky to the baby to doing ECV, and they will scan again before doing it (and monitor heartbeat intermittently throughout) to check baby is ok. I've decided I'd rather give ECV a chance because otherwise it will be a c-section, they don't do breech deliveries at most hospitals round here. I've booked in acupuncture for Tuesday though (ECV is thursday) in the hope that that might work, and will also try the frozen veg on head. Have been doing inversions for past couple of weeks to no avail, baby seems to brace herself against the sides! So I think I'm giving her the best chance of turning, if none of those work then it will be a c-section, so I'm trying to prepare for both possibilities.
