Before I got this flu in April, the only other time I ever got the flu was the year I got the flu shot! So, I believe it.
Well, they say it's not true that you can get the flu from the flu shot. It is a coincidence if you get sick right after getting the shot. We all have trouble believing in coincidences, but it's not a live vaccine.

We got the infant car seat because it was a compromise with my mom - she wanted us to have a stroller for when she took Akiva for a walk (she would not wear him), so this was a good way to make one of our major purchases multitask. Otherwise we would have had to buy a stroller too.

Hmm. I don't really have lots of layers. In fact I only have 3 sweaters that fit right now. I was hoping that if I got a coat I wouldn't have to get too many more sweaters.

Not true. Some versions of the flu vaccine are a live virus, including the nasal spray one. You CAN get the flu from them.

I have no plans to buy a maternity coat and I'm in Canada. For just going to work and back I'll wear my coat open with a sweater and long scarf. And if I'm going to be outside for a long period of time I'll wear one of DH's coats.

I'm only buying a convertible. I don't really care if I have an infant seat for carrying around - I'd much rather use a sling.

Oh my gosh, my almost 30 month old is still in Mediums. She's petite though.

We're getting a convertible. The radian is the only one that will fit in the back seat of my Saturn Vue along with the big kids' boosters. I would rather do a bucket for the first little bit, but I would also like to avoid strapping someone to the roof rack, so there you go.

I'm still up in the air on seats. DS was 9 lbs and we started out in a Marathon. Now, we have a Marathon and two Boulevards. That said, a good bucket seat is safer and, now that they go up to higher weights than 20 lbs and xx inches (too short, I fear), I may use one. DS was a lightweight, despite his birth weight and was easily small enough, weight-wise to stay i a 20 lbs bucket forever. On the other hand, DS would have flipped out very early about the steep recline of the bucket.

Yeah....I don't know what to do. :

I made a set of medium pocket diapers for my last baby, that are still practically new! And my sister was pregnant with a girl at the same exact time, so I made her a set of new pocket diapers for her baby. She never used hers, so I am going to use her set for this baby. (since they are girly)
So, I am trying to sell my medium set of pocket diapers. I am also going to start sewing a few more newborn diapers. I can't wait to get my hands into that project. There is something exciting about sewing the tiny ones!

I am getting a britax boulevard for the new babe. My friend has two buckets that he said I could use, and then my neighbor offered me one as well. I don't have that many cars. LOL> I am only planning on using the bucket seat if the baby is not quite long enough. I do have to get a new car though. I can not fit three carseats across in my car. I don't know how that is going to happen yet, but somehow it will work out. If for some reason we can't get a car before baby I will have to take my oldest out of her britax and put her in her booster (that we use for other cars) and then put baby in a bucket and my middle girl will probably have to go foreword facing. That should fit the three kids, but I would prefer not to use that set up since we lose a lot of safety. We should be able to sell our car and just buy a used car right off. I HOPE!!!

I am still struggling with the whole weather thing in february and hauling new baby around. (First two were summer babes!) Its usually pouring cold rain here then though temps usually hover around 0 C so not bone chilling just wet. I think I am going to use an infant carseat for the first couple of months (hopefully I can use my sis in laws that she offered) because I can't imagine trying to stuff a sleeping baby in a sling in pouring rain for quickie preschool/school pickups.

I am not sure what to do about coats either. Maybe my husband's raincoat for wet days and sweaters for dry? One tip I got was to find a roomier coat with the double zipper on the bottom so you can just unzip it around your hips and stomach as you grow if that makes sense...

Our first baby was very petite and the convertible wouldn't have been safe for her early on at all, so I was relieved we had an infant seat initially. While some babies fit fine in a convertible, not all do and it's something to consider, especially if you or your husband were smaller babes.

But I totally agree with the sling > infant seat for convenience and ease in terms of carrying an infant around, for sure. Heck, I used the Hotsling a few weeks ago, big fat pregnant me with my 2-1/2 year old in a hip carry in the mall. It was snug but worked. (Gotta love those slings!)

We have an bucket seat that we've used for both infants, and I'll use for this one too. Being born in February in Ontario with 2 older kids, I won't be transferring the baby from car seat to sling in driving snow, or freezing temperatures, at least until a bit later. I'm not sure what's going to fit yet either, it's a pretty full back seat and I'd like to get rid of my leased Jeep.

Ha, I thought that was funny about the profiles too. Hey, we all have favourite and not-so-favourite features...ie I'm glad my kids haven't gotten my husband's ears! But, you never know what they'll end up looking like.

I DO want a coat like that. Where I live we get feet and feet of snow, and it's very cold over the winter, and I just feel cheated that I have to hide this pregnancy under all those layers. I definately want a warm (wool) coat to show it off- so let me know if you find one!

The only convertible I'm aware of that would fit a newborn is a radian. The Marathon's lowest straps are to tall for your typical baby. We have our infant seat from our toddler still so we will be using that. We will buy a Nautilus for our 4yo when we need to move the baby from the infant seat into the roundabout and the toddler into the Marathon that our 4yo is currently in.

So reading those links I see there are a few other convertibles that would work for a newborn but a lot that won't.

It doesn't get that cold here, but when I did need a winter coat last time I was pregnant during the winter, I basically did that too.

I'm so enjoying everyone's updates and comments!

No flu vaccines for us.

We have a Britax Wizard (the new model is the Boulevard), and an infant seat as well. Since we already have both, I'll use the carrier seat for the first six months, then switch to the Wizard.

No coats needed here in Houston! It's still nearly 90 degrees!

I had some close and strong contractions on Monday and Tuesday. That was scary. I had fetal monitoring; sono; and FFN (to tell if I would go into labor in the next 14 days). All indicated the baby is doing well, and there were no signs of imminent labor. What a HUGE relief to avoid bed rest and drugs. I'm taking it slow, and the contractions are less strong and now only every hour or so.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be re-stocking the freezer (we lost all our food with hurricane Ike) with homemade dinners. That way if I need to be on bed rest, at least we'll have healthy meals!

Trying to catch up...

Flu vax: absolutely not. It has mercury in the inoculation version, and the flumist sheds live virus for at least a month.

Carseats: We were going to go straight to a convertable, but Mia will be born preterm, and so if she's under 5 pounds we'll rent a carseat bed from the hospital, and then we'll go to the infant carrier (but leave it in the car--those thigns are always too heavy for me).

Peach80, a car seat tech is in this ddc...maybe she will come by and chime in! She was very helpful in my lkast ddc when it came to car seats. I will say after doing one winterborn babe in just a convertable I will not be doing it again! You have to undress them from their coat before buckling them in for safety sake and it is heart breaking untill they get warm again from the blanket over them in the car. I have two Radians and two Marthothons (two in both cars) so it was hard call for me to make since pretty much 4 kids in DH car is out and we will have extra car seats now.
I doubt I will be hauling the bucket around though since I love to sling...I just made a new sling last night!
I'm hoping to sew up two slings today. I would also like a poncho set up for our infant seat though I already have something like this http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...t_adv_XSP10001 that works great.

lol yeah my son was 22lbs at 4 months. We had to downsize to mediums when he was about 18 months and his hamhock thighs slimmed down. Thanks for the comments on the carseats. We have really cold weather up here so I am thinking a bucket will probably be a good idea as we will still have some -30celsius weather in february.
