How can I get the baby to move down?

Hi everyone,

I am 38 weeks and my midwife told me this morning that I need to work on getting the baby to move down in my pelvis. She suggested squats and acupuncture... Does anyone else know of anything else I can do to encourage this little guy to descend?

Thanks in advance

When you are squatting, rotate your hips. If you have an excercise ball you can sit on that and rotate your hips around also. Try some dancing and walking also.

: Also, if you have stairs you can walk up, try to walk with your legs apart. So, aim your right foot for the right side of the stair and your left for the left side. It helps to open the pelvis and allow the baby to move down. Kind of like walking in a squat. Just be sure you have something to hold on to!

I hope one of them works!

I've heard this from a few midwives so I'll throw it out there, take it for what it's worth....

Squatting opens the pelvic OUTLET and in doing so, slightly closes the pelvic INLET. If your baby is really high and you're trying to get him/her to engage, reducing the size of your pelvic inlet is counter intuitive. If your baby IS engaged and you just need them lower then maybe squats would be helpful, but otherwise midwives have told me to avoid the deep squatting.

Fascinating! It sounds right to me, I just hadn't thought of it that way.
