Even though my baby was born on October 1st, I still feel very much a part of the September Due Date Club!
Yesterday, we welcomed our daughter, Eleanora Dianne, at 9:04AM CST. She weighed in at 9 pounds 7 ounces and measured 19.75 inches. She is adorable and we are totally in love with her.
I had lots of issues with my HCPs and felt I fought them hard to get the birth I wanted. I am excessively grateful for having gone into labor naturally - 11 days after her EDD. My labor lasted 17 hours and I only dilated 2cms. Contractions started on Monday night but I didn't get too excited because I had several false starts. My contractions continued into Tuesday and progressed consistently throughout the day. I was losing my plug and had lots of bloody show. I thought this might be the start of something. Contractions continued and at 9pm, we left for the hospital. From the time we arrived till about 8am, I had regular contractions that progressed into tolerable to absolutely horrific. I never in my entire life thought labor could be so painful. I tried everything - my meditations, preparing myself mentally and emotionally for nine months, laboring standing up, in the shower, squatting, on the birth ball, with my hubby massaging my back, to taking an injection of some narcotic that helped me sleep for about five to ten minutes between contractions. At around 3:30am, my contractions were so hard and unbearably painful. Around 6:30am, I had no break between contractions and they just kept coming! I was checked during this time - contractions and all - and it was discovered I was only 2cms dilated. I was devastated. I had a c-section scheduled for October 1st at 12:30pm and asked to change the time to earlier in the morning. I was so disappointed I wasn't dilating and totally exhausted. At that point, I just wanted my baby! My HCPs convinced me I couldn't birth my baby and I didn't believe them. I still don't but after 17 hours of labor and not progressing I started to believe my big baby had something to do with it!
I ended up having a c-section but am so glad I went into natural labor and attempted to deliver my baby the way I always wanted. It didn't work out the way I wanted and am hoping with baby number two, it will. I will start with HCPs that believe in me and they will be natural birth friendly. I'm also determined to have a homebirth. I think it makes all the difference in birth outcomes.
We are so happy with our baby! She's nursing well and sleeping a lot!
