Tell me about your sewing machine/serger

My Kenmore sewing machine finally pooped out. I took it in to be fixed because the needle alignment is way off, and the woman said that my machine is not really suitable for sewing multiple layers of fabric. I have a feeling she's wrong, but I'm thinking maybe it's time to start shopping for something new.

So, what kind of sewing machine do you have?

And if you have a serger, what kind is it, and did it take awhile to get the hang of using it? I pretty much only use my sewing machine to make diapers, and am really interested in making fitteds with serged edges.

Thanks!!

I have a crappy Brother sewing machine that I wouldn't recommend. I have an Elna Pro5DC serger that I love. It's super easy to learn to use, and I use it A LOT. It's easy to thread, has an electronic display of settings for stitches, and was relatively inexpensive (I bought it used around $250 shipped)
