Toddler lactivism

I think my dd (2.5 yo) is a fantastic little lactivist.

Ok, so I came home last night and dd had found her beloved little stuffed dinosaur and was giving him milk with her sippy cup. I was kind of sad about it and mentioned to dh how I wished she modeled BF more than bottlefeeding, but ya know, I understand why because ds gets breastmilk in a bottle while I'm working, of course (I WOH and dh is a SAHD). Dh replied, "It's just a prop; she's only using it because it happens to be there."

He's right, of course. She nurses her babies all the time, and has me nurse them too. To prove the point, after I went and got changed into comfy clothes, there she was crawling all over me with her baby dinosaur, trying to unbutton my shirt and insisting that her baby dinosaur needed to eat. Then she of course also climbed inside my shirt, and cuddled for awhile. Poor ds (almost 7 mos), meanwhile, was getting more and more impatient to nurse and actually WAS hungry (unlike the baby dinosaur or his big sister, who has weaned). He had to wait about 10-15 min before dd was satisfied that her baby dinosaur was satiated and she'd had enough snuggling.

I could TOTALLY be that mom from Redbook with a stuffed animal in my bra. It happens a lot.

She also sometimes takes all manner of toys, inanimate objects, etc, and lifts her shirt up or down, latches them on, and announces, "_________ eating!" (for example, "Fork eating!" or "Batman eating!").

Please share your toddler lactivism stories. I love hearing these.

My dd doesn't nurse her "babies" herself much, but she wants me to nurse them. Last night I started out tandem nursing my dd and Mickey Mouse. But then hippo wanted some too, so then I had Mickey and hippo. Then red bear needed in on the action, but she couldn't figure out where to fit him in, so he ended up snuggling in the middle. This is a pretty regular occurrance in our house!

Yesteday I was looking through old photos (trying, without sucess, to find a RECENT family photo for DS' school project) and found one of DD1, around 18mo, nursing a baby doll. She had her shirt lifted up and everything.

The strangest thing I've ever "nursed" was a piece of paper, at DS' request when he was around 2.5.

I think you posted this one before because I never forgot it, I laughed so hard.

DD likes to ask me to nurse various stuffed animals & toys but usually it's a ploy. As soon as I agree and open my bra to start nursing the toy, she shoves it aside and latches herself on. Not sure why she does this...I suspect she has the best of intentions but then quickly changes her mind when she sees the boob.

Dd, 18 months, has just started nursing her dolls... from her belly button

Ds, when he was about 2.5, asked me to nurse his baby. When I asked him why he didn't nurse her, he said, "Uh, Mommy... boys don't nurse." Like "DUH, Mommy" Lol...

We have a couple of toy bottles somewhere around the house (one even with juice, it was mine when I was little ) but neither of my kids has ever used them to feed their dolls (even though they have both gotten bottles while I was at work)...

My daughters rarely nursed their toys, but would ask me to do it. Once, when I was not in the mood to nurse the toy sheep, I suggested she do it. She was around two then. She said, "Mommy, I CAN'T nurse her. I don't have breasts yet!"

I just got DD this t-shirt to wear at this week's WBW event (hopefully it gets here in time!!).

It's funny, DD did/does nurse her dollies - DS actually does usually bring them to me to nurse. When I suggested that he nurse them, he kind of did, but in "ha, ha, we know this won't work" kind of way.

Ha! My 21 month old DD tried nursing a piece of paper today.

Whenever we'd get caught on the bus at naptime we'd nurse on the bus, that's slowed down a bit in the last two months so now she nurses her monkey on the bus. She lifts up her shirts, says "chiche" (Spanish term) and all you see is the little monkey's legs sticking out from under her jacket. People always look confused, so I explain. I say "she's feeding her baby" and congratulate her. I figure if I start making her comfortable with NIP now, it'll be easy peezy by the time it's her turn!

Anytime we're out and pass a bra section my dh likes to start saying "look-mommy milks". Not exactly lactivism but I think it's funny. He still thinks dad's have "milks" too though. And the other day he saw an actress on tv with a larger chest than me and goes "wow-big mommy milks". My dh got a big kick out of that one.

My friend's four year old wanted to hold her baby, so she put the baby on his lap while he sat on the couch. He's pretty responsible, and I was in the room (with a child on my lap, so couldn't reach him too quickly) so she left him there for a minute. The baby started to fuss and the four-year-old immediately lifted his shirt and tried to force the baby's mouth onto his nipple: "Here, baby. Here baby! Nurse!" The baby did NOT like it -- she was screaming by the time we reached her, but he tried!
