when did you feed nuts?

I just walked into the kitchen to see DS in the cabinet covered in Peanut butter. This is his first taste of nut products, he just turned two. What should I watch for just in case? If he has no reaction *fingers crossed* does that mean he can have a PBJ? I am still BFing and am not allergic to nuts, and ate them through the whole pg and still.

Not really sure what to watch for reaction wise. I'd probably just keep an eye on him, look for noticeable changes. Watch for rashes.

My DS has been eating pb since 13 months. I'd think by two he should be fine unless there's an allergy, and hey- it's better to find out this way than to have him be at a friend's house or somewhere, right?

I've never known ANYONE who was allergic to nuts. I understand a parent's concern as nut allergy does typically tend to be more severe than other allergies but odds are your kiddo is just fine. I didn't worry about nuts with dd at all to be totally honest. It's likely that most children over the age of one have injested the remnants of nuts dozens of times. Unless you make everything at home and eat nothing pre packaged, made by a friend or relative, or from a resturant your child has already had some sort of nuts.

honestly, if allergy is your worry and you want to be totally sure AND dont' want to limit your child from so many good, healthy, foods you can take them in for an allergy test. It isn't going to hurt them at all and it's in an environment that can very quickly and effectivly treat any reaction. It's controlled and safe. Then, you will KNOW exactly what your child is allergic and not allergic to.

With my daughter, some time after age one - maybe around 18 months. She had some reaction to walnuts - bumps around her lips, hives on her face - that's about it. No reaction to peanuts or any other nuts. That reaction went away after age 2. She had several sensitivities to different foods for the first 2 years of her life, nothing severe.

With my son, he had PB by around 9 months.
No reactions. And now its one of his favorites. He doesn't have any sensitivities other than kiwi.

I think it was a little over a year for us. He was fine.
However he's over two now and I still don't give him regular nuts to eat. I am paranoid about choking. I don't know when I'll feel comfortable letting him eat peanuts and almonds. Probably this winter I'll let him have walnut halves.

Around a year old for our guys.

It was around 1 that they had peanut butter. There are 2 people in my family who have peanut allergies. The one is a first cousin of mine, he is the ONLY one on that side of the family to have a peanut allergy & that side of my family is huge. The other is my 2nd cousin's daughter. They haven't actually given her nuts(she's 4), but she was tested for other allergies & they tested nuts too. Hers is 7 on the scale of 8, so they treat her like she has a severe allergy & are waiting until she's older to redo the test. If it goes down in levels then they'll try her with nuts at the hospital. She is the ONLY person on that side of the family(also huge) who has a nut allergy.

Actual nuts, was older between 2 & 3, maybe not even until 3, depending on when they got back teeth to chew them.

When DD was about 13 months, after we had her allergy tested. The nuts were not our main concern, it was every other food she put in her mouth she was reacting to, so we did have her allergy tested.

My oldest had a slight peanut allergy that I'm pretty sure he's outgrown, but it made us paranoid about DD, so we waited until a year for her.

DS2 had an allergy test at 9 months, so we gave him everything after the results of that came back.

DS hasn't really had nuts yet, other than some he's swiped when we were eating them. He's 16 months now and not allergic to anything so far, so I am not really worried about him being allergic to nuts, plus he never had a reaction to the few that he has eaten. I'll probably give him PB around 18 months- ifs he's anything like me he'll love it!

my bf's daughter (she was 2 at the time) fed dd a peanut at 11 months. it was earlier than i would have done it but dd was fine and has been fine through several subsequent exposures.

My youngest child is the only one I remember and she had a PB&J sandwich at 10 mos old. I didn't give it to her, the daycare she attended at that time did it without telling me first. : She was fine at the time. She's 6 yrs old now and would eat PB daily if allowed. lol.

First nuts (traces of hazelnuts in a beet salad) sometime around 9 months maybe. Peanuts I think was a little closer to a year, but definitely by 12 months.

We have no history of nut allergies anywhere in our family, and I'm not convinced delaying (without a family history) is particularly useful.

My DS had PB at around 6-7 months on accident. One of his sisters left a sandwich on the ground. He was fine.

Even though we have no histoiry of nut allergies specifically, I was very cautious. While BF'ing I noticed that sometimes when I'd been eating PB every day for a week or longer, DS would come out with a rash, so I cut back to once or twice a week. We never really knew if the rash was from the peanuts, but just wanted to be safe.

He's been eating PB with no reaction since about 15 mos. I'd be careful with walnuts, I've heard they can cause worse react6ions than peanuts, even.

My ds got pecans, almonds, walnuts, and cashews before age 1. He got hives on his face after walnuts so no more of those. I gave him a walnut last week and no rash. He's 15 mos. He started peanut butter and loves it at 14 mos. We have no food allergies in my family.

Peanuts are not related to nuts. So one can be allergic to nuts but not peanuts, and vice versa.
