So yesterday I was having a normal day. Didn't expect anything special. Yesterday night I was supposed to go to a meeting on the base though. They were going to be talking about home front return and reunion. So suddenly my mom starts trying to talk me out of it. And i'm like "mom, I think I should really go... they might give out important information about the ship's return." And then she hurts her back... and lays on the floor... refusing to get up. Would not give me a ride to the base (and I can't drive.) So, I resigned myself to not being able to go. Then my DH calls my mom. I answered the phone cus she couldn't get up. And I'm like "how come you're calling my mom and not me?" And of course he gave me the logical reason... because he thought I was still at the meeting. Which was true, I had told him I was going to the meeting. Well, he just claimed he was calling to say hi, but that he had to go. lol. It was kinda typical of him... so I didn't think anything of it. Then my mom is saying she wants to watch TV and is trying to push herself along the floor while laying on her back. So I drug her over to the TV and we started watching an episode of "24". A little while later... the door bell rings. I was like "who the heck could that be?" thinking it might be the next door neighbor. Went to the door and opened it... and looked through to the glass outer door and stood there for a moment confused and shocked... just blinking... as I looked straight at my husband! He wasn't supposed to be home for another week and a half. So I just opened the outer door and was stammering as he walked in with a big grin and my mom hopped up without a problem and started snapping photos of us!
It was a big shock! My husband (who is never able to surprise me) just pulled off the biggest surprise ever! So of course I took him over to the crib to see his baby girl that he hadn't yet met. She had been screaming and crying uncontrollably. We'd layed her down in the crib to see if she might cry herself to sleep. After all she had been changed and fed and even holding her hadn't calmed her down. So I handed her to her dad anyway. And for some reason... she calmed down. She fell asleep in his arms. Sheesh.
My mom got a few more snapshots of us, and then my DH pointed out that he had changed the hotel reservation to last night when he'd changed his plans and come home early. So, I got packing fast to go to the hotel. It's crazy... my husband actually flew home from Hawaii when his ship pulled in there. I guess the ship was flying home several sailors for free. His mom and dad knew about it, as well as my mom.
I can't believe they all fooled me! I am usually great at sniffing this stuff out. I can say I was slightly suspicious... as my mom had received a call from him earlier that day. But not suspicious enough to actually believe they'd pull something like that off.
The only sad thing is... going to sleep last night without my baby was the hardest thing i've ever done. I cried for a while, until my husband told me to just call over and check on the baby if it'd make me feel better. It did.
