Never seen that before

Yes, this bugs me. I was shopping at our local warehouse store and they had a TV at the end of the baby aisle with Ty talking about the newly redesigned similac package. I shut it off!

Yuck! I think it is interesting how their motto at the top of the page is "strong moms." Just seems like a very weird slogan. And then to have a male handyman as the spokesperson....

It bugged me too... there's also a big ad with him in a baby magazine i got for free at BRU. I had to show DH, it seemed so odd to me... that guy always bugs us when we watch his shows, and now that he is endorsing similac i really don't like him at all! but i guess lots of moms like him b/c of the show or think he's good looking or whatever, so maybe that is why they thought he would be a good spokesperson for them.

We had a thread like this here before and it was moved to TAO. If you'd like to have a conversation about promoting breastfeeding in light of celebrity endorsements, that's great. Otherwise, it doesn't belong in lactivism. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I think Ty's endorsment is odd and a stretch. I found Brooke Sheild's odd as well as she was very open about the fact that she breastfed.

Great question. I know Lea Salonga was promoting breastfeeding in the Philippines, but I don't know how famous she is (she's a Broadway star, was in Miss Saigon and was the voice of Jasmine in Aladdin.)

I don't know of celebs who specifically endorse breastfeeding, but I think that the fact that some do breastfeed publically is a pretty powerful statement/endorsment. That said, would it be odd to see Ty Pennington on a breastfeeding promtional ad? I'm not sure.

I know that there are a few celeb moms that sing breastfeeding's praises, but I'd love to see ones that officially endorse breastfeeding.

I recall Thandie Newton talking about her weight loss and breastfeeding, Christina Aguilara liking her breastsize from nursing Max, Madonna talking about breastfeeding Lola, Pam Anderson's breast implants were placed under muscle so she could-and did-breastfeed her boys, but these are all from memory so don't quote me.

I'd love to see adverts and commercials with celebs, or women that would appeal to the more mainstream mothers, that support breastfeeding, but make it trendy and not like a public health service announcement

Wow, one more reason to love Lea Salonga!

Keisha Castle-Hughes breastfeeds--she was the girl in 'Whale Rider', had a bit part in 'Revenge of the Sith' and also played Mary in 'The Nativity Story'. Not hugely famous outside NZ, but pretty cool. She's a young mum--was 16, I think, when she had her daughter? I read an interview with her after the baby was born, and was very impressed--she talked about her boyfriend bringing the baby to her at night so she could nurse. She also planned a homebirth, though she ended up with a high forceps delivery, and talked about not wanting a C-section. For someone who was so vilified for having a daughter that young she struck me as extremely together and 'with it'; I was pleased! (Gorgeous baby, too).

Maggie Gyllenhaal also got in 'trouble' for NIP recently, I recall; and Helena Bonham-Carter once spoke of BFing as 'natural liposuction' and said she loved doing it, because it helped increase her bust and slim down her thighs! So yeah, there are celebrities out there who breastfeed.

CBB is often mentioning Angelina nursing the twins. In fact, it seems like a lot of celebs and their wives are talking more and more about NCB and breastfeeding. :

Here's an interesting site: BFing celebs
Christina Aguilera - Says her slim line post baby figure is down to breastfeeding
Elizabeth Hasselbeck - Relates a funny story about pumping and her daughter Grace.
Jennifer Garner - Nursing was very different to what she was expecting.
Rachel Weisz - "I think you feel a lot more confident and much more appreciative of your body"
Helena Bonham Carter - Loves breast feeding her new baby because it gives her boobs a purpose.
Tammy & Melissa Etheridge - Kudos to Tammy! Breastfeeding twins may not be easy but it's possible!
Gabrielle Reece - Volleyball player Gabrielle Reece blogs about breastfeeding.

I think that Jennifer Garner also said something about being "addicted" to Breastfeeding. "I can't wait to get home to breastfeed her." (I'm paraphrasing I don't have the quote in front of me, but it was something like that.)
