I just have a couple of questions...

1) If this is the case, why aren't the OBs over here telling all pg women to get Td boosters during pregnancy to "protect our babies"? And is he saying that we pass our vaccine-induced tetanus immunity on to our babies? I didn't think this was possible (i.e. the natural measles immunity versus vaccine-induced measles immunity and the ability of the former to protect babies).

2) Besides pouring all the money into vaccines, what else is being done there to make living conditions better and "more sanitary"? Couldn't that money be used for other programs? Also, what kind of education programs are being funded re: cord care?

How can you "wipe out" a pathogen that is not transmissible from person to person, and is endemic to soil and animal manure? Wouldn't that require altering entire ecosystems?

Am I missing something?

I guess Amanda Peet is no longer Mr.Offit's (sorry, DOCTOR ) spokesperson, no? Didn't work out or something???

So I guess it's Salma's turn now. The awful Pampers commercial wasn't enough I guess.
I noticed her in connection with vaxes for awhile now. Just wondering. WHO's/CDC's "Vaccine ambassador?" Trying the manifest the "dirty immigrant" stereotype much??

Salma Hayek has been on this campaign for a while, ever since her daughter was a newborn, I believe. One argument I read in favor of this was that vaccine-induced immunity in the mother is indeed transferred to the baby. I, too, am curious as to whether it's true. Anyone know? It is not to get vaccines to the babies, as I understand, as they are too young to receive it. If this IS true, it's better than babies dying of neonatal tetanus. If not true, it's beyond ridiculous.

I agree that more should be done to clean up the area, and to educate people in not applying dirt to the cord stumps.

That's the most idiotic thing I have heard today (and I just heard that the bailout passed). While we are at it, let's wipe out athlete's foot, colds, and poop.

her commerical for Pampers annoys me, two things I personally don't
belive in Vaxs and disposiable dipes

Teacher, I get it, I get it!!! Because vaccine "induced" immunity isn't supposed to pass from mother to child like naturally aquired immunity does-isn't that why you're supposed to vax so early-wait, but now the mother is supposed to get vaxes BECAUSE she would pass on immunity?? Teacher???

That just doesn't go together. AT ALL.

The whole thing is beyond ridiculous!

Actually I read a different article about this very topic yesterday and it said the vaccines were being given to moms AND babies. Fifty million vaccines given so far, with a goal of another 70 million by the end of the program. This is just another reason why I avoid Pampers at all costs.

Has there been any research into the damage this vaccine can cause to the fetus if given during pregnancy? Hmmm, me thinks not. Hey, I know! Why don't we just complete the entire vaxing schedule during pg and then all babies will be born with immunity to everything. :

Next they'll be telling us that circumcision in boys prevents disease as well.

Pampers. One Pack = One Circumcision

But... you can't "wipe out" tetanus - its not a communicable disease and lives in the freaking GROUND. Unless you went around and poisoned the entirety of the earth and vaxed every living thing on earth, theres no way to 'errradicate' or 'wipe out' tetanus. Ugh.

They themselves said it is caused by unsanitary conditions at the birth. Why aren't they spending that ridiculous amount of money to help people have clean running water?? They just go in, vax the heck out of everyone, and leave. That is NOT the answer to improving the health of people there. It is worsening it.

OMG, I have said this so many times. This drives me nuts, especially when I hear about Bill Gates donating so many millions for vaccines in Africa. Why not millions for clean water?! Having clean water and proper toilets would do amazing things for public health, yet money just keeps getting pumped into the vaccine machine...
