Some people believe that the agenda is not to save lives, but to limit population growth. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue, but this is a video well worth seeing: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...06663412840646

Tetanus in pregnant women has been linked to an increase in miscarriages. I realize that there may be unsanitary conditions present at birth, but how much does a sterile razor blade cost to cut the umbilcal cord? With all of the marketing they are doing, they could have probably drilled hundreds of wells and put money toward sewage systems.

I wouldn't be surprised. I do hear about how some people think there are too many babies specifcally from Africa and Asia, and if I recall Bill Gates is on that bandwagon.

I also agree that funneling all this money into vaxes in other countries while ignoring the root cause of problems is just ridiculous and imo suspicious.

Vaccines are the bandaid

I'm not sure what all the fuss on this thread is about. Vaccinating in 3rd world countries, IMHO, is so obviously a different story than here in the US. Of course it is also the cheaper route - that is why it's done. Combating corrupt government regimes, cleaning up drinking water, providing adequate nutrition, etc. OMG! I can't even imagine how much MORE that would cost than a vaccine.

And saying that all we have to do is pass out sterile razor blades to cut umbilical cords or teach the traditional birth attendents about washing hands, etc. Right - they still believe that if you have sex with a virgin then your HIV status will revert from positive from negative.

I'm going to assume that Pampers and Selma Hayak are truly just trying to help the mothers and babies in the poverty stricken countries that they are targeting with the tetanus vaccine. They can help a little and save a few lives. Not everyone or anyone is capable of changing the world.

You can vaccinate the living daylights out of a pregnant woman-but as long as somebody puts DIRT on a cord stump, you will have a problem. And by the way, a pregnant woman has the right to live poison free, here and and in Africa.
Yes, that would cost more. But I do not buy for a single second that Pampers wants to *help, PLEASE. They want to sell toxic waste, not help- and a big number of people will buy those diapers thinking they will do something good.

Well, doesn't this go back the the primary argument: Do vaccines work or not. If point blank feel they do not work, then you are right. If they DO work, then they are doing something good. This leaves aside the issues of testing vaccines on third world people.

People might be waiting a very long time for adequate plumbing and decent water and sanitation services. So vaccines just might be a tool to keep people healthier.

If Pampers wanted to do something good they would simply donate a big, fat amount regularly and not spend money on advertising to promote their diapers. Or at least donate more of that money, not those ridiculous 2 cents per package. Vaccines aside, if they wanted to help they'd supply money, not advertise diapers. You want to make money, that's okay. Just spare me the "buy my product to keep people form dying", that's awful. I simply can't stand the american way of "I donate money and want to see my name on a plaque". It's a marketing tool to sell more diapers, nothing else.
