My 2 1/2 yr has been bombarding us constantly with "I WANT THAT!" I tell her to put it on her list, she says Thank you and that's the end of it...

That still works on my 8yo.

I usually just start a neutral conversation about the item "wow, that looks cool. what would be the most fun part of it?" if they really seem excited i tell them I will put it on the list and think about it when birthdays or Christmas comes up, tell them I will pass that information on to grandmas, tell them how much money they will need to save to buy it etc.

What I did, and not just because of those annoying ads that make my kids wants everything in site..is, I cancelled my cable account. DONE!
