I am so happy to announce that June Aleda was born October 1 at 11:18 am weighing in at 7 lbs 14 oz. She was 12 days past her due date but so completely worth the wait. We got home from the hospital last night and have been busy learning how to adjust to our new life with our beautiful but very sleepy baby.
I was hoping for a completely natural hospital birth but ended up with a couple of interventions. My water broke at midnight, and by 2:00 I decided it was time to head to the hospital. Labor was going great until I became dehydrated which raised the baby's heartbeat too much and kicked my contractions out of control. My cervix also started getting swollen (they said because the baby was so low and pushing on it) and stalled dilating at 4 or 5 cm. After an hour and a half of trying to re-hydrate myself by drinking lots of water, it was clear that an IV was necessary. That slowed the baby's heartbeat down, and an epidural gave me a chance to rest and the contractions to regulate. Within an hour of receiving those two things, I was fully dilated. The pushing was a welcomed change of pace but took an exhausting three hours. I was so happy when she finally came out! I ended up with only a very small tear and a perfect little daughter! I love my Junie!
