My sea salt does not have iodine, but my prenatals do.

My sea salt doesn't have iodine added either. I've been reading a lot about iodine lately because I have a history of thyroid issues. "They" say that most Americans do get enough iodine in general but pregnant women need about 220-290mg as opposed to 150mg needed when not pregnant. My prenatals only have 150mg so I think I'll look into adding kelp like the pp. Thanks .

I use unrefined sea salt (Celtic Salt or Real Salt) because I want the trace minerals that are otherwise lost in refining. Real Salt only has trace amounts of iodine, and I want to be sure I am getting enough for baby's brain development. One quarter of a teaspoon of iodized salt has 200 mcg of iodine, so if you use vitamin-fortified salt, you are probably getting enough.

Just a warning - kelp, in my opinion, is perhaps the nastiest tasting food I have encountered . I put 1/16 teaspoon of kelp in chicken broth to choke it down. Others put it in smoothies.
