DD #2 arrived on Tuesday, 9/30 at 38w2d. She was 7 lbs 9 oz and 20.5 inches long. Be warned that my birth story is a little scary and graphic:
I ended up having an emergency c-section. I woke up around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and went to use the bathroom. My water broke and there was blood everywhere. We got to the hospital as fast as we could. By the time I got to L&D, my dark denim capris looked red and the light yellow t-shirt I was wearing had blood 2-3" deep all the way around the hem. I had blood running down my ankles.
After checking me out and looking at the strip (very little variability in baby's heart rate and my belly was contracted without ever letting up) my doc (family practitioner) consulted the on-call OB and they decided to proceed with a crash c-section. I was given general anesthesia and baby was born almost exactly 1 hour after we reached the hospital. They discovered that my placenta was 50% abrupted and had broken into pieces, and there was a fist-sized clot in there as well. Basically we were blessed to get her out when we did.
Thankfully she came out yelling and Apgars were 8 and 9. They let me nurse her in recovery, about an hour after she was born. She nurses beautifully--my other two weren't this cooperative until about 6 weeks. I'm a little tired and sore (the OB told me that crash c-sections get a little "brutal") but otherwise doing great. We really feel that God watched over us and protected us in so many ways and I'm so grateful that we made it through okay!
