I'm here, and I apologise for being such a pill in the last thread. :/ I think I need to take my HS issues to a HS thread.
Anyway, I'm pretty shocked by how much snow we have, how cold it's *staying* and generally the suddenness of winter. Usually we get one or two melting snows before the "real thing."
Magnus was born almost 5 years ago, on October 25, at home, under the first sticky snow, and it was a dusting. Here it is early Oct and we've had snow for over a week!
It's already putting a dent in our woodpile, and we have a lot of wood. I'm really worried we're going to see another -65 F winter here and a lot of people are going to burn their houses down because they don't know what they're doing with wood stoves!
Yeah, I was a bit surprised we already had a dusting. And we are hoping we have enough wood. Andrew's talking about trying to cut at least one more load just to be on the safe side. We have more than we did last winter (actually, some of it is from last winter), but last winter was so mild.
I just hope my kids' boots get here soon, as they are complaining their feet are cold in their rain boots.
Oooh we got Itasca boots from Sierra Trading post at a screaming sale and the kids love them. They're insulated rain boots so toasty & sensible until it actually is snowboot season.
I thought about the insulated rain boots, but I don't have the money for both. As the boots I get are pretty much waterproof, I figured they can just go with one or the other until it really snows. Now, if I could just find some boots for myself we'd be all set.
yup, snow stuck in our yard. Looks like Tomorrow will be Boot shopping day. So, I'm praying that Sears has those kick booty Land's End Boots I love so much for the kiddos
DS is sick, and now one of his eyes is all red and weepy; I think it's a sign of an ear infection. He has a clinic appointment at 1:15, and I KNOW they're going to push antibiotics. My first antibiotics/no-anticbiotics choice. I'm going to ask how severe the ear infection looks, if there is one. Grr.

Yeah, that's a tough call. Most ear infections will clear up on their own no problem. It's hard knowing when to go with medicine and when to just let it go on it's own. I've heard garlic drops are good for ear infections and so is breastmilk. Hopefully the little guy will be better soon.
On another note, we now have about 4 inches of snow in our yard. It's weird because we went to pick up milk today and 3 miles down the road there's just a dusting. But I am glad the kids' boots got here yesterday.
blizzard babe, my ds had an ear infection lasts winter that got bad enough that I took him in and had our first perscription for antibiotics. I went and got some garlic ear drops and started giving him 2x daily doses of that and lots of sodium acsorbate and told myself if it didn't start getting better in two days I'd get the abx. It got better and I never filled the prescription.
Where did you get the garlic drops? I think I'll go with ABX this time if it is indeed an ear infection; he seems to be in quite a lot of pain; he hasn't slept longer than a half hour during the day for the past three days, and has only slept longer than that at night if he was RIGHT next to me (like glued to my side).
I second the ear drops, didn't need ABX. I got them last time at the Natural Pantry, but I bet Fred Meyer has them in their Natural section too, so I'm sure you could bush order them for next time.
The snow was nice, I'm glad the sun's out now though. Yesterday we didn't have any snow at our house, but we went to look at a couch out in meadow lakes area and they had an inch out there. The kids were excited to see the snow this morning.

Blizzard if you need garlic drops, let me know. I could pick some up for you and mail them to you. PM me if you need 'em.
So, it's Target Day here in Anchorage and in Wasilla... I'm vacillating between this-
and this-
: and this-
When I lived in the lower 48 I LOVED Target. And I still love it. But I don't WANT to love it. I don't WANT to want all their shiny pretty stuff at decent prices. I also hate the homogenization of the country, where everywhere you go there are the SAME stores, restaurants, etc etc. Now I actually have to exercise my willpower (I hate having to do that!). But if I win that $5,000 gift card I am so there
Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself while the thread is short and not super intimidating
Anywhoo, I just moved up here from WA. DH is going to UAA and he has a room in town but I am staying with a friend in Wasilla with the kids. I start a new job at Providence on Monday. We are very happy to be back home

I thought they opened the 12th? I must say I am excited to have cute baby clothes
It's today. Their "grand opening" is sunday I think, but they had a private opening by invitation only last night and as of today they are open to the public as well.

Just got back from Target (in Wasilla) it was already pretty busy at 9 am and packed by the time we left at 10:30. Finally found some shoes for my 6.5 yo, been looking everywhere. They have the whole line of method cleaners and soap!
: Somehow I managed restraint and only spent a little over $100 today.
Been busy, DP's back is out, he's been drugged up and bedbound for almost 5 days. Poor guy.
So things are super busy.
It's still only hitting about 30F during the sunniest part of the day at our house. I'm sending the kids out before lunch every day, but they don't last long.
