I picked salmontree because I've always been facinated by the cycle of salmon.. How they travel out to sea to fatten up and then swim back inland to die where their bodies deposit all those ocean nutrients in the soil to nourish the forest. You might say that the trees are made of salmon. So cool.
I love your username! It made me think Dr Seuss... "fish in a tree, how can that be?"

salmontree is an awesome user name.

M is going to be Buzz Lightyear, E will be a knight or a pirate, and I has a long list of costumes she can use for Hallowe'en. of course, if she's like the rest of my kids, she'll decide Hallowe'en is the ONE day of the year she doesn't want to dress up. The older girls will choose their own costumes from what we have around...lots to go with.

I'm staying home today because of all the snow. It's wonderful! I've been hermitting lately and I love it. More time w/ the kids, more baking, more "school."

love, p

We are going as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, dragon, Puss N Boots and of course, Prince Charming.

Awesome! I wanted to be Fiona last year, but didn't have the $ for costumes.

DS2 and DD4 (soon to be 5 and 3, respectively) are so lucky to have Bdays around Hallowe'en! Last year DS got a Buzz Lightyear costume for his bday, and he's still wearing it all over the place.

Well, we save and reuse costumes (hand me down), so Fiona is essentially just my renaissance dress with purchased ($4) horns, Prince Charming is last year's "knight" costume, dragon was from two or three years ago when we did "classical hollywood"...

So I never spend that much out of pocket..

While preparing for a program this summer at the Eagle River Nature Center on salmon, I found this really cool statistic:
Up to 18% of the nitrogen in streamside trees might originate for salmon carcasses. An article published in the journal Ecology traced nitrogen from carcass through forest ecosystem and the "migration of dead salmon" was astounding. So enough sounding like a bio-geek.. But I love the name.

Emma has two costumes this year. She wanted this kitty costume, so we ordered it (a far cry from last years Buzz Lightyear and her cowBOY the year before LOL) and it's too tight to wear anything warm underneath, so.. since she wanted to costume party for her birthday.. she'll wear that for her party.

We ordered a second costume... POWER RANGERS! I ordered her a pink one, and she was preturbed with me, because she wanted to be a red ranger... but she forgave me. So that is what she'll be T.O.Ting in.

Halloween--Probably going to teh goldstream community center party. It seems like no one does trick-or-treating in our neighborhood, and I'm not too keen on knocking on doors to find out! DS wants to be a monkey, but he'll be a kangaroo again if I can find his costume! I'm going to be an elf.

WHoooo HOOOO!!! We need more doulas lol. Who are you training with?

Don't do Halloween here. The kids have a costume night for AWANA at some point this year and my daughter keeps talking about going as Nancy Drew, but I'm somewhat at a loss as to how to do that. I told her instead that she should dress in camoflauge and we'll hang fruit on her and she can be the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
