Unvax'd and Strep Throat

I have a friend coming to visit tomorrow and she just told me that she "might" have strep throat. That she is on anti-biotics and probably wasn't very contagious, but that she wanted to warn me anyway. DS is mostly unvax'd, should I leave him with DH during the visit? Usually I don't worry about the world, but now that I have it in my lap I have to make an informed decision. Any advice? TIA

Well, considering that there is no vaccine against strep throat, I don't think your child's vax status should come into consideration at all. But generally speaking, doctors say once someone has been on antibiotics for 24 hours they are no longer contagious.

There's no vax for strep throat, so your kiddo's vax status is a moot point. Your friend should be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours -- no missed or mistimed doses -- before considering herself non-contagious. Strep is pretty contagious, so if she hasn't met those guidelines, I'd ask her just not to come.

Thank you so much. I didn't know if not having vax's would complicate the matter or what, so I was being cautious. She started anti-bios yesterday so I believe the 24 hour mark will be reached. Very thankful that I asked, I feel better now.

NOT vaccinating NEVER complicates the matter. Quite the other way around. I agree with what everyone else said. But I would keep some SA on hand for yourself, your baby, and your friend.

SA = sodium ascorbate (a form of Vitamin C)
