Silk-Wool Long Johns?

Anyone use these for the family during the winter? I am thinking of investing in a set for each of us (family of 5)....seems like they would help in cooler bedrooms at night....anyone know of a good place to get them online?

I'd like to know more about these, too. I saw that Nova Naturals had some in their catalog. They are pretty pricey, though. $50 for an adult shirt.

Both of those stores can be a little pricey, but VERY high quality...I have many things that I purchased up to 8 or 9 years ago...actually my parents purchased them because I was still in high school!

Thanks-going to check these out! I know most times you get what you pay for...I am willing to pay for quality-as long as the kids can wear them for a year...dh's and mine should last....also I can pass 2 pairs down to other children you know?

I would highly recomend the Hocosa brand that I get from www.danishwool.com. We've had the Ruskovilla from Nova, but the kids far prefer the Hocosa-either the all wool or wool/silk blend. I have two clothing sensitive kids and they wear this stuff all day, all winter. The double faced nelson hat is worth it's weight in gold for cold winter days. I wear the wool/silk blend myself and love it. I know this stuff is pricey, and I'm pretty darn frugal, so I wouldn't buy it if I didn't think the long term quality was there. My kids simply do not get too cold outside playing in this, they sleep in it--I love it, and I love knowing where it comes from.

Just want to say maybe you should buy a set for yourself and try them first. I was given a very nice set of 100% wool long underwear and I hated the feeling of wool on my skin, even though it's the softest, smoothest wool I ever touched. I rarely wore them and mostly keep them in my underwear drawer. Eventually moths got into them and ate a bunch of holes. Everything else were not touched because they're cotton, but they sure liked wool. Better test them out before investing in so many sets at once.

I have SilkSkins brand and I can't recommend them, they are already shredded after only 1 winter of wearing last year. True I wore them daily last year, but still, they are shredding now. I'm wearing them now & they still function and keep me warm, but not the best quality I'm afraid.

I keep an eye out for camp-mor sales. I bought my silk long johns there. My husband needs something warmer, so I buy thermax merino blend long johns for him. I can't do wool and I love the silk. It's SO thin. I can even wear it *under* black tights and it's not noticeably there (I put legwarmers over the cuff ridges).

Silk long johns do completely shred and wear out after a season.

I'd like to know how the wool-silk combo holds up, though.

My kids are on their third year of the wool/silk combo. I have been able to pass them sown. proper care is really key toget the longest life out of them.

I have the silk ones from Lands End, love them, have worn them for years. DH works outside in the winter and loves the Duofold Thermal pants and long sleeve top. I think they are wool and cotton. I bought some more last year at Bob's.

We got our whole family the wool/silk ones fro nova naturals last year and love them.
I really recomend sizing up for the kids incase they go through the dryer accidently.
I didn't size up because my dd is on the small side anyway and I was afraid they'd be baggy, but when they arrived I tried my nephew's on her (a size bigger) and they weren't baggy at all, so we would have been okay.

All ours are still being worn and are in decent shape, except for a few holes. We wear them a LOT though. If you want to avoid holes don't wear them around the house without pants over like I do

The silk long johns from terramar etc dont compare to the european wool silk blends by ruskovilla, engel or hocosa. Ruskovilla makes a 100% silk long johns which are like a silk jersey and are very durable. Expensive though, but great for very sensitive skin. Engel makes fun stripes and colors in the wool silk too. The wool silk is super soft and my entire family wears it. We get ours from my friend Michelle at Green Mountain Organics, she imports ruskovilla and engel.

I bought a pair of silk long johns to try out. Unfortunately they mailed me a pair of XL size. I gave it to DH to wear, but he's not "cold enough" to need them yet. I'm a little turned off by ordering clothes online at the moment.:

$150 for one set of long johns??? I don't spend $150 on an entire winter wardrobe that lasts me 3-5 years. That is WAY out of my budget for underwear.
