She's here!
:
Yesterday I felt grouchy and resentful about going over my due date all day. I also noticed that I cried easily and kept thinking of how to get labor started. I was obsessed. I snapped at DH a few times. Finally, I went off by myself for a long walk, got a pedicure and manicure, and went by whole foods to buy bottom balm and evening primrose oil. While there I couldn't resist buying a greeting card that said, "Happy Birth Day". I got a call from my doula and best friend (whom I met on my Oct. 2006 due date club on MDC!) saying that there was something in the air and she thought I might be ready. My husband said that too. Everything was coming together.
After the kids were in bed, I had a contraction or two - but nothing serious. I emptied 9 caps of EPO into a shot glass and then massaged it onto my cervix upstairs. I came back down and made a cup of hot RRL tea and watched a dog show on animal planet with DH. I started having mild contractions. At 9:30pm I took notice and told DH something might be happening. They were 6 mins apart. By the time they were 4 mins apart, at 10:30, I called my doula to give her a heads up. I had some seriously painful ones after that so I had DH call the mw too. While he called her, I went to the bathroom and noticed bloody show - it seemed like a lot of blood to me (2 tbsp or so) but my mw wasn't too worried. I told her to give me more time and I would call her back when they were more serious.
I baked a homemade pumpkin spice birthday cake with buttercream icing to celebrate. This took up a bunch of time, and I relaxed in the kitchen during contractions. My friend arrived and helped me ice the cake, while DH took photos. Then we went up to get in the tub. Contractions went from 3 mins apart to 6, so I kept standing and walking to keep them strong. At 2:30pm I started to feel shaky. Contractions still weren't that regular, but when I went to the bathroom I had pushing urges. DH noticed my behavior and despite me telling him to wait, he told the mw to come anyway. It is a good thing he did. She arrived at my house at 2:45pm and at 2:55pm I birthed my beautiful daughter in the bathtub. The pushing part was overwhelming and intense. I tore 2nd degree because she came out with both shoulders like a football player. Still, when it was over I thought "how did I ever do this" and then, "Oh God I am blessed."
She is sleeping and I only have a minute, but my daughter arrived early this morning on a beautiful fall day. We named her Elora. Here she is:
