For those of you dealing with acne...

I have had acne since I was a pre-teen, and have tried everything, including Accutane (back when I was in high school and didn't know any better) to improve my skin. I tried OCM, every wash an treatment you can imagine, and antibiotics, too. Over the past few months, I have discovered what seems to be the perfect solution for me - fish oil capsules. It takes awhile for them to take effect - I started to notice an improvement after about a month. At first, it seemed to get worse, which is the point at which I stopped when I tried them a few other times. My skin now is SO much better. I might have one or two tiny blemishes at a time, where before I would have had ten or twelve. The ones I take are a 1000 mg capsule - I'm not sure if a plant-based (flax or pumpkin seed oil, for example) would be as effective. I just take one a day with breakfast, and that's it! Incidentally, my fingernails are harder and my hair seems stronger, too. I also wash my face with handmade soap at night, and exfoliate with a scrub a couple of times a week.

I guess this sounds a bit like an infomercial, but I wanted to share, in case this helps someone else! It's no fun to deal with acne, and this is a simple, relatively inexpensive treatment, which is also good for your heart and brain. Good luck!

im curious-did you have the 'classic' pimple with a white pus filled head, or the harder red bumps that seem to have underground type cysty type of acne?

i have a mix of somewhere in between the two, and im curious if this would work for me.

thanks for the info though-i will check in to it.

I'm glad you've found something that works for you. I'm researching herbs now to find a facial cleanser formula I'm happy with (for myself and to sell). An acne healer/preventer is a huge part of what I have in mind to help.

I had a combination of the two kinds of pimples, too - now if I have any, they're tiny and not the cyst-like ones, and they disappear much more quickly, too. It's definitely worth a try - the capsules I take are $8 for ninety 1000mg capsules, which is enough for three months.

That sounds pretty inexpensive for fish oil tablets, I know that purity certified- and triple filtered Nordic Naturals cost *much* more than that. About 3x's as much and they are really great and pure.

They do work well for acne. Many types are caused by lack of healthy fats in the diet, mine is a combo of diet/hormones.

Also for me I started taking evening primrose oil, a probiotic, multi vitamin, and zinc. Zinc is especially helpful for cystic acne. I have been taking this combo for a couple weeks now and my skin is looking much better.

I would be concerned about the quality of fish oil you are getting, just an FYI.

I was reading just yesterday on a site dedicated to acne sufferers. One fellow had tried absolutely everything, then started trying different nutritional supplements and vitamins. He ended up with a routine that cleared him up. The key ingredients seem to be cod liver oil, fish oil, and lots of olive oil, all taken by mouth, not put on the skin.

What you have discovered is much the same thing. If you stall, you might want to add the cod liver oil and olive oil. I hope you continue to clear up until your skin is just beautiful.

wow, thank you for this! Me and DP both have bad acne, and both complain that we thought that it would clear up after we were no longer teenagers lol. Like you we get both kinds. I will definitely pick up some fish oil capsules.

Just what I was looking for!

I'm currently preg so I've been researching more natural face care remedies. What I've done, and is currently working for me, is as follows:

I wash 2x daily with this really high quality foaming microbiotic cleanser. It's a little more expensive and chemical-ly than I prefer but got rid of the cystic stuff that was going on.
I spot-treat blemishes and problem spots with a tea tree oil mix that I got at my NFS,
Then I moisturize with straight jojoba oil
For makeup, I started using bare minerals and love it, it's so gentle on my skin. I splurged on that too, and feel that it was very much worth it.

Pregnancy has wreaked havoc on my skin but this mix seems to be working. I think I'm definitely going to look into adding fish oil to the mix though, I hear it helps with so many things, and it's good for baby, no?

That's great that you found something that worked for you!

I wish I would have known about washing with honey (also can be used as a mask or as spot treatment overnight) when I was pregnant. I could have saved some serious chemical exposure.

Acne is a symptom of an imbalance. Correct that imbalance and you will see a curing of acne. The cures for different people will be different things. Mine cured by simply drinking 1/2 gallon of water/day. my sister's cured when she cut our dairy from her diet. A close friends cured when she started accupuncture.

: I'm finding this to be more true every day.
